Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Emergency Department Nurse Educator is to create, execute, oversee, and assess the development and improvement of the nursing staff in the Emergency Department.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and
3. A Master's Degree in Nursing, or a related nursing or education field, from an accredited college or university; and
4. Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse in specialty area(s), including:
a. One (1) year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s); or
b. Holds a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator.
For Assignment to Nurse Educator Level II
1. In addition to meeting the qualification requirements of Nurse Educator Level I, must be assigned to a highly specialized area (e.g., critical care, emergency services, perioperative care) or to a group of specialty areas.
Department Preferences
Experience in a Level 1 trauma Center Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)
BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC, TNCC, TCRN, ATCN

Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Emergency Department Nurse Educator is to create, execute, oversee, and assess the development and improvement of the nursing staff in the Emergency Department.
- Coordinate educational in-services and activities for the Emergency Department, with a focus on accommodating individual learner characteristics and learning styles.
- Evaluate nurse orientees to ensure a smooth onboarding process that emphasizes retention and growth.
- Provide preceptor support by conducting regular check-ins to facilitate the teaching-learning process.
- Develop, implement, and monitor the Emergency Department nurse orientee competencies to assess the application of knowledge, skills, and behaviors required for successful completion of the on-unit nursing orientation.
- Plan, organize, and conduct just-in-time teaching or training, and act as a resource for all Emergency Department nursing educational inquiries and issues.
- Assist in on-unit coordination for the Emergency Department fellowship and the Nurse Residency
- Program.
- Ensure maintenance of National Patient Safety Goals by actively participating in departmental reviews.
- Serve on hospital-wide committees and contribute to the development, monitoring, and management of departmental processes and projects.
