As a key member of the Major Accounts department, the Underwriting Manager, Global Casualty will develop and execute the growth and business unit strategy for the Canadian Region. This role will involve collaborating with various Chubb Casualty support teams, including Operations, Claims, Actuarial, and Risk Consulting, to ensure profitable underwriting outcomes.

KEY OBJECTIVE:
As a key member of the Major Accounts department, the Underwriting Manager, Global Casualty will develop and execute the growth and business unit strategy for the Canadian Region. This role will involve collaborating with various Chubb Casualty support teams, including Operations, Claims, Actuarial, and Risk Consulting, to ensure profitable underwriting outcomes.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Underwriting Excellence
- Conduct risk selection, pricing, and coverage negotiations for new and renewal business, including facultative reinsurance.
- Oversee the underwriting referral process, escalating risks outside of authority to senior leadership.
- Contribute to the development and dissemination of underwriting policies and procedures.
- Monitor service standards and ensure compliance with established underwriting processes.
- Manage the audit process to maintain operational integrity within the business unit.
Financial Strategy
- Develop and implement a strategic business plan to achieve financial objectives in profit, growth, and expense management.
- Monitor key performance indicators to ensure targets are met.
Client Engagement
- Actively represent Chubb to brokers and clients, enhancing corporate visibility.
- Collaborate with leadership to execute a distribution strategy that drives profitable growth.
Team Leadership
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding and development of underwriting staff.
- Manage performance evaluations and lead cross-functional underwriting teams.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of underwriting experience, particularly in primary casualty loss-sensitive environments.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and underwriting authority.
- Knowledge of General and Auto Liability insurance, large deductible programs, and alternative risk solutions.
- Proficient in large deductible programs, including their credit and collateral implications.
- Knowledgeable about captive and alternative risk programs.
- Skilled in identifying risk exposures, both special and common hazards, and their appropriate controls.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate claims and loss trend analysis.
- Established broker and insurance marketplace relationships.
- Excellent oral and written communication, including presentation and negotiation skills.
- Previous management experience is required.
