The Cybersecurity Data & Analytics Consultant leverages technical skills to enable data-driven decision-making in enterprise security operations. This role combines cybersecurity domain knowledge with advanced analytics, data engineering, and visualization to deliver actionable insights that support executive reporting, incident response, and program governance. Ideal for a technically inclined professional eager to apply data science and automation in a strategic consulting context.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Engineering:
- Collect, clean, and transform complex cybersecurity datasets (e.g., incident data, SLA metrics, ticketing systems) for analysis and reporting.
- Automate data collection pipelines using tools such as Python, Power Query, or APIs where feasible.
- Develop and maintain structured data repositories, documentation, and source mappings.
Visualization & Reporting:
- Build interactive dashboards and reporting artifacts using Power BI, Tableau, or Python visualization libraries (e.g., Plotly, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
- Translate data trends into strategic narratives for executive and stakeholder consumption.
- Align reporting deliverables to cybersecurity KPIs and client-specific objectives.
Advanced Analytics:
- Apply statistical analysis, predictive modeling, or machine learning techniques to support risk forecasting, anomaly detection, or incident pattern recognition.
- Explore opportunities to enhance automation and intelligence in SOC reporting and governance programs.
Security Program Support:
- Work with security leaders to understand operational challenges and turn raw data into business-relevant insights.
- Contribute to the improvement of governance artifacts, such as process documentation, workflows, and runbooks, through the lens of technical analysis.
Client-Facing Consulting:
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and clearly communicate findings, methodologies, and recommendations.
- Adapt to different client environments and tailor solutions based on maturity, tooling, and strategic goals.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or open-source alternatives)
- Familiarity with databases (SQL), APIs, and data integration techniques
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles, frameworks (NIST, MITRE), and security operations workflows
- Ability to explain complex technical insights to non-technical stakeholders
- Self-starter with a passion for learning and applying advanced analytics in cybersecurity
- Experience with statistical methods, forecasting, or machine learning is a strong plus
