Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to provide strategic leadership and support to our Emergency Department Physician Services group in the hospital setting. Responsibilities include oversight of the operations, budget, recruitment, patient experience, risk and several other areas. This individual will have strategic, ongoing communications and interactions with relevant clinical and operational leaders, building effective partnerships with team members throughout the organization.

Essential Job Functions

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute strategic plans to enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of ED physician services, aligning with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Physician Recruitment and Retention: Lead efforts to recruit, onboard, and retain highly skilled emergency medicine physicians, fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism.
  • Quality Improvement: Implement quality improvement initiatives to elevate patient care standards, optimize clinical workflows and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the ED physician services department, including resource allocation, budget management, and performance monitoring.
  • Collaboration and Partnership: Foster collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including hospital administrators, nursing staff, allied health professionals, and external partners, to promote interdisciplinary teamwork and achieve shared goals.
  • Clinical Governance: Provide clinical leadership and guidance to ED physicians, promoting evidence-based practices, clinical excellence, and continuous professional development.
  • Patient Experience: Champion initiatives to enhance the patient experience withing the emergency department, ensuring timely access to high-quality care, compassionate communication, and patient satisfaction.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to clinical operations, patient safety, and regulatory compliance, implementing strategies to enhance risk management processes and mitigate liabilities.
  • Performance Metrics and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness of ED physician services, monitoring performance trends, and providing regular reports to senior leadership.
  • Professional Development: Support the professional growth and development of ED physicians through mentorship, educational opportunities, and ongoing performance feedback.


Other Job Functions

  • Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
  • Travel to all facility locations as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Ability to work off-hours and on call when required


Basic Qualifications

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in emergency medicine or related field, with demonstrated success in clinical management, quality improvement, and physician leadership.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, regulatory requirements, and industry trends related to emergency medicine.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning, organizational development, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to evolving priorities and challenges.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and continuous quality improvement.
