Who You'll Work With:

The Responsible Investing Portfolio Solutions and Research Analyst works within AB's Responsible Investing (RI) Unit. The RI Unit is part of the Investments Group at AB and partners with the other Investment units-Equities, Fixed Income, Multi-Asset & Hedge Fund Solutions, and Private Alternatives-to deliver better outcomes to our clients through rigorous responsible investing research, integration, stewardship and solutions.

The Responsible Investing Portfolio Solutions and Research Analyst will report to our Director-Responsible Investing Portfolio Solutions and Research for Equities and Fixed Income and be part of the five-person Solutions team, which is one of four teams within the RI Unit, along with Research, Stewardship, and Data/Technology.

The Solutions team is responsible for partnering with investment teams to build and implement responsible investing-focused approaches, methodologies and frameworks, conduct engagements and perform research in order to incorporate ESG factors most efficiently into our investment portfolios so as to deliver better outcomes to our clients.

What You'll Do:

Our Responsible Investing Portfolio Solutions and Research Analyst develops strategies and tools for investment teams for integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations and managing ESG risks throughout the teams' research, engagement and investment processes. This role is heavily focused on solving problems, creating efficiencies, implementing new processes and finding unique ways to add value via responsible investing.

The Analyst will likely also take on an industry specialization in order to effectively partner with similar research analysts across the Investment Group.

The analyst must be able to communicate our RI capabilities to clients in writing and participate in client meetings.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Meeting regularly and building rapport with analysts and PMs globally to understand their opportunities and challenges around RI and to develop solutions to address these opportunities/challenges. This will include short-term ad hoc projects and longer-term strategic projects.
  • Partnering with our RI Research and Stewardship sub-teams to leverage our best-practice research and engagement approach in problem solving, addressing ESG risks and opportunities with investment teams and preparing for and conducting engagements.
  • Developing frameworks and investment processes in collaboration with investment teams, business development and product management for strategies to meet AB standards around ESG integration as well as comply with evolving global RI investment and product regulations (SFDR, SDR and others). This includes:
    • Understanding investment philosophies, processes, strategies, asset classes and client needs.
    • Working with our other internal teams (Data/Tech, IT, BD, PD, Operations, Legal & Compliance, PMG, IGC and others) to implement and institutionalize these frameworks.
    • Working day-to-day with our investment teams to aid them in complying with these frameworks - such as assessing good governance for SFDR compliance on companies we're invested in, diligencing or lending to.
  • Building a deep understanding of 1-2 corporate industries (e.g., TMT, Industrials), which will then be used to partner with analysts in those industries across the firm - including research projects, monitoring company activities and preparing for/conducting engagements.
  • Developing expert knowledge of our RI-related PM tools in particular Prism 3.0, Materiality Matrix, ESIGHT, SFDR and Carbon Transition Assessment Dashboards, and AB's ESG data sets. This includes:
    • Helping to maintain and enhance the tools (with our Data/IT teams)
    • Answering investor questions about them
    • Demonstrating them during client meetings.
  • Responding to client queries - e.g., RFP and other similar inquiries
