Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Enterprise Architect with deep expertise in large-scale Mainframe Systems to lead strategic modernization and migration efforts for our enterprise clients. This role requires hands-on knowledge of complex legacy environments with millions of lines of COBOL code, and the ability to architect future-ready platforms using modern cloud-native paradigms.

As a key thought leader, you will drive technical vision, architecture design, and transformation roadmaps that ensure scalable, secure, and future-proof migration from mainframes to modern platforms.

Responsibilities

Your Impact:
  • Serve as the architecture lead for large-scale mainframe modernization and migration initiatives across multiple client engagements.
  • Analyze complex legacy systems (COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, IMS) to define migration strategies: rehost, refactor, rearchitect, or rebuild.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, engineering leads, infrastructure teams, and vendors to align modernization efforts with business goals.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, performance bottlenecks, or architectural gaps during assessment and implementation.
  • Provide architectural leadership across workstreams, including application, data, integration, and infrastructure.
  • Lead architectural reviews, technical assessments, and workshops with client stakeholders.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for mainframe tools (e.g., File-Aid, DMLO, ChangeMan, BETA92, AVISO) and database technologies (IDMS, DB2).

Your Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in enterprise architecture with strong expertise in mainframe platforms (IBM z/OS, COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2).
  • Proven experience leading the modernization of large-scale mainframe systems with millions of lines of legacy code.
  • Deep knowledge of migration patterns, mainframe assessment methodologies, and target architecture modeling.
  • Experience in re-architecting batch jobs, transactional systems, and integration layers.
  • Hands-on exposure to modernization toolsets like Micro Focus, Raincode, IBM z/OS Connect, or similar platforms..
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree or TOGAF certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as lead architect in multi-year mainframe migration programs across banking, insurance, healthcare, or public sector domains.
  • Strong grasp of enterprise integration (APIs, messaging, ESBs), DevOps practices, and cloud reference architectures.
  • Strong understanding of distributed/cloud-native systems (Azure, AWS, or GCP), modern app stacks (Java/Spring, .NET, containers, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with data modernization and mainframe data store migration strategies.
