The Networking and Cyber Technologies (NCT) Business Unit at RTX BBN Technologies (BBN) is seeking a Senior Technical Fellow to lead a growing the multi-domain technology line of business. Relevant and specific capabilities include operational mission planning, platform integration, cyber and electromagnetic warfare (EW) technology development, and other areas relevant to Science and Technology customers. This Senior Technical Fellow will expand and lead an exceptional team while building new technologies/capabilities and facilitating transition of cyber and electromagnetic spectrum operations (EMSO) technologies to both military and Intelligence Community customers.

BBN solves challenging Cyber/Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) type problems of high importance to our customers in the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, and Industry. Our team specializes in developing cutting-edge technologies by combining a fundamental understanding of modern Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) and cyber technologies with facilities to conduct advanced research and development via modeling, simulation, experimentation, test, and analysis.

What You Will Do:

The successful candidate will:
  • Develop cutting-edge capabilities combining cyber and electronic warfare in all warfighting domains.
  • Lead the growth in business through bookings, revenue, staff, and topic areas of the multi-domain line of business at BBN.
  • Work across RTX to integrate and field advanced capabilities applicable to technology roadmaps of Raytheon, Collins, and Pratt & Whitney.
  • Influence business strategies, technical roadmaps, and research directions across BBN, RTX, funding agencies, and industry.
  • Distinguish BBN to customers by leading and performing cutting-edge research and development.
  • Distinguish BBN within the greater non-kinetic scientific and industrial community through outreach, writing and supporting technical papers, presentations, professional society memberships, and other forms of engagement.
  • Recruit technical staff to support business growth, and provide mentorship to ensure staff retention and career growth


In addition to the listed responsibilities, this Senior Fellow is expected to propose new ideas and solutions to challenging scientific and technological problems in the cyber and radiofrequency domains and across domains, as well as scientific and technological leadership opportunities, setting directions and priorities.

This position reports to the NCT Business Unit Lead and works with technical and business leaders and staff across NCT, BBN, and other RTX Business Units.

This position is onsite only at BBN offices in Columbia, Maryland, or Rosslyn, Virginia, located near key customers.

This position will require travel to BBN, RTX, teammate, and customer site for meetings, or other business-related activities.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • A degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other technical field and minimum 14 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree and minimum 12 years' experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Extensive technical experience in EW and cyber R&D and capability development; at least 12 years in the defense industry working on Government-funded contracts.
  • Demonstrated success in growing portfolio bookings and revenue in cyber and EW areas. Proven track record of winning external funding from government S&T agencies (e.g., DARPA, IARPA, IC, DoD Service Labs) and expertise with transitioning technologies to operational customers.
  • Extensive research and leadership experience in system-of-systems multi-domain effects integration to include advanced RF waveform generation techniques such as cognitive EW.
  • Excellent customer skills, providing SME support, novel ideas, and established relationships based on trusted expertise.
  • Experience in writing winning proposals and leading funded contracts for customers such as DARPA, Service Branches (and their labs), and other government agencies.
  • Experience in managing R&D programs, with a track record of success in executing major research programs and managing R&D staff.
  • Excellent communication skills working with senior business and customer leaders on matters of strategic importance to the business or enterprise.
  • Experience leading R&D teams of technical experts, mentoring / developing technical staff, project leads and research engineers to develop and deliver customer solutions.
  • Current TS/SCI and experience with advanced programs and activities.


Qualifications We Prefer:
  • PhD degree Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another technical field.
  • Direct experience with open architectures and government standards.
  • Direct experience with developing enabling technologies for cyber resilience and cyber survivability.

The salary range for this role is - . The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
