Rainmaker scientists aim to understand the physical and chemical characteristics of novel precipitation enhancement particles and how they interact with clouds. This role is responsible for conducting highly technical and complex research projects

independently and in consultation with a supervisor. It includes daily operation of laboratory

equipment and assisting in experimental setup and execution of aerosol characterization studies.

What You'll Do
    • Characterize aerosol samples by their size, hygroscopicity, and ice nucleation ability
    • Synthesize novel aerosols
    • Contribute to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepare technical reports, papers and/or records
    • Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory/scientific equipment
    • Process and analyze research data and effectively communicate the findings to the greater scientific and engineering teams
    • Conduct periodic maintenance of equipment and laboratory space
    • Identify, research, compile and evaluate data sources, background information and/or technology related to area of specialization
    • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and in a team setting


Required Qualifications
    • Experience following detailed technical procedures or processes
    • Wet chemistry experience
    • Aerosol sizing, ice nucleation, or hygroscopic measurement experience
    • Chemical synthesis experience
    • Experience in a laboratory research role with an emphasis in analytical equipment and physical measurements
    • Basic computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Python
    • Detail oriented
    • Able to produce consistent, high-quality results
    • Adaptable to new methods, processes, and software
    • Ability to work effectively with shifting priorities
    • Ability to work independently and seek out resources or help when needed
    • Experience with experimental design and data interpretation
    • Proactively improves work processes and practices


$80,000 - $130,000 a year

Preferred Education: Master's degree in physical sciences or engineering

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in physical sciences or engineering

Preferred Experience: 3 years

Minimum Experience: 1+ year of experience working in a laboratory research or technical support role

Preferred Field of Expertise: atmospheric science, aerosol science, chemistry, nanoparticle synthesis, or physics.

Minimum Field of Expertise:Directly related education and experience in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods.
