Position Summary:
The Behavioral Health Curriculum Director ("BH Director") will advise and assist the Residency Program Director in behavioral health and wellness as they relate to resident education. The BH Director will manage the development and implementation of a longitudinal Behavioral Health curriculum for residents. This core faculty position includes teaching supervision administrative and clinical work designed to ensure the curriculum aligns with our goal of being a "program of excellence". ("Programs of Excellence" meet and exceed ACGME program requirements). As a Morehouse School of Medicine faculty and a member of the More in Common Alliance programs designed to advance health equity there is opportunity to engage in national curriculum development faculty development research and advocacy. CommonSpirit Health which sponsors Dominican Hospital is the second largest not for profit health system in the country is committed to the needs for a robust quality Residency and thus provides support to ensure faculty well-being personal and professional development. The Residency Family Medicine Practice (Resident Continuity Clinic) is in a nearby FQHC Santa Cruz Community Health in which the BH Director will be deeply engaged as well as other community partners supporting the Resident experience. The Director BH for the residency program shall focus on the integration of behavioral health into the family medicine residency educational program as well as supervision of residents in the clinical setting; serves in multiple roles including (1) Core Faculty for the family medicine training program and (2) modeling clinical care. As Core Faculty directly reports to the Program Director

Position Description:
- As the Director of the Behavioral Medicine Curriculum, directs all clinical educational and administrative duties associated with the behavioral health at the family medicine residency including coordinating other behavioral medicine clinical faculty teaching and supervision of residents.
- Administer a structured educational experience that adheres to ACGME institutional and program specific requirements consistent with Competency Based Medical Education best practices. The curriculum must be structured so behavioral health is integrated into the residents' total educational experience.The curriculum should follow guidelines established by the AAFP.
- Deliver lectures as part of the Family Medicine Residency didactic series.
- Provide clinical input for residents on behavioral health issues for patients in their Family Medicine Practice panel.
- Provide regular assessments of the Family Medicine residents who are providing care to patients in the Family Medicine Center and other teaching sites.
- Participate in the interview, selection and ranking process of residency candidates for the family medicine program.
- Serve as a member of the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) for the Family Medicine residency program.
- Attend and participate in faculty related activities such as Faculty meetings, Faculty retreats, and Faculty development courses as approved by the Program Director.
- Assist with the creation of Family Medicine Faculty development materials and courses ensuring continuous program improvement to meet the mission of the Residency.
- Complete periodic faculty development courses hosted by Morehouse School of Medicine, Society for Teachers of Family Medicine and other quality professional improvement programs to ensure adequate knowledge of ACGME requirements, GME best practices, and CMS documentation guidelines for billing when working with trainees.
- Serves in the capacity of "Assistant Program Director" by providing GME leadership to ensure that the practices and principles described for Behavioral Health and Wellbeing are well managed given the large range of administrative responsibilities in this expanded role.
Qualifications
Experience/Education
- Master's Degree in Psychology
Licensing requirements in one of the following disciplines:
- PSYCHIATRIST: shall have a license as a physician and surgeon in the state of California, or the ability to obtain a license prior to employment is required, and show evidence of having completed three years graduate training in psychiatry in a program approved by the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association.
- CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: to be a graduate from an accredited school of psychology and to be licensed as a clinical psychologist in the state of California, or the ability to obtain a license prior to employment is required.
- FAMILY PHYSICIAN: with additional training and qualifications in Behavioral Health (eg, Fellowship Trained).
- NURSE PRACTITIONER: licensed to practice by the Board of Nursing Education and Nurse Registration in California, or the ability to obtain a license prior to employment is required, and possess a master's degree in psychiatric or public health nursing, and two years of Nurse Practitioner clinical and/or teaching experience in a mental health setting.
