The Payroll Specialist II is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of the organization's salaried payroll, including account reconciliations, reporting, and documentation. This role plays a key part in maintaining payroll integrity and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600-$103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

The Payroll Specialist II is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of the organization's salaried payroll, including account reconciliations, reporting, and documentation. This role plays a key part in maintaining payroll integrity and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

What you'll do
- Prepare and process salaried payroll, including base pay, variable compensation, deductions, taxes, and remittances.
- Calculate retroactive payments, severance, and other non-regular earnings.
- Prepare journal entries and reconcile payroll-related accounts (payroll, paid time off, incentives, accruals, etc.).
- Balance, file, and report on tax remittances and other statutory requirements.
- Maintain and update scheduled payroll reports; provide payroll data analysis as needed.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance through thorough control, validation, and audit processes.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, finance, government agencies, and external auditors.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records in the system.
- Document and review payroll processes and procedures for continuous improvement.
- Support the Payroll Supervisor and contribute to department projects and initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
- College diploma in Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive payroll and accounting experience within a complex, multi-departmental organization.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification required.
- Strong understanding of payroll processing, accounting principles, and best practices.
- Proven ability to process payroll accurately and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in payroll software (experience with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is an asset).
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a business environment.
- Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
