Rendezvous and Proximity Operations Oversight Software Engineer

Location: Houston Texas

Are you ready to support NASA's next great leap in space exploration?

If you're passionate about human spaceflight, intrigued by the challenges of space operations, and inspired by the idea of helping humankind explore the cosmos - we want you on our team.

Astrion, through the JETS contract, is looking for a Rendezvous and Proximity Operations Oversight Software Engineer to support NASA's International Space Station (ISS) missions. In this role, you'll join a dynamic and diverse team of engineers, scientists, and mission specialists working at the forefront of space operations.

You'll provide essential technical oversight and program integration for visiting vehicle Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) systems, ensuring safe and successful rendezvous, docking, and operations with the ISS. This is your opportunity to directly support the future of spaceflight by helping certify and manage the spacecraft that keep the ISS supplied, crewed, and operational.

Why This Role Is Special:
  • Be part of a high-impact mission that supports astronauts living and working in space.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts from NASA, industry, and international partners.
  • Apply cutting-edge simulation tools and systems engineering to solve real-time spaceflight challenges.
  • Work on missions that inspire - and make headlines.

What You'll Do:
  • Certify GN&C system compliance through analysis and test report reviews.
  • Evaluate sensor performance, trajectory dispersions, and flight safety margins.
  • Review hazard analyses and verification evidence for safety-critical systems.
  • Recommend and track solutions to GN&C and RPO performance issues.
  • Assess Monte Carlo simulations using 6-DOF modeling tools.
  • Support mission operations consoles during real-time visiting vehicle flights.
  • Coordinate with engineers, flight ops, safety, crew offices, and vehicle providers.
  • Contribute to flight rule development and on-orbit test planning.

Who You Are:
  • A technically strong and detail-oriented engineer with a passion for space.
  • Skilled in GN&C principles, orbital mechanics, and system verification.
  • Comfortable with C/C++, Python, and Linux environments.
  • Effective in both solo work and highly collaborative team settings.
  • Capable of clearly communicating complex technical information.
  • Driven to deliver quality solutions on tight deadlines.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (aerospace, mechanical, or related field).
  • 2-5+ years of experience with GN&C systems, software, or mission operations.
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics, RPO principles, and spacecraft systems.
  • Experience with GN&C design, testing, and operations.
  • Proficiency in Linux, Python, C/C++, and simulation tools.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience:
  • MS or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on GN&C.
  • Direct experience with spacecraft rendezvous, docking systems, and mission support.
  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC standards, flight ops procedures, and documentation tools.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, NASA Trick, JEOD, and Git/GitLab.

Join us and help shape the future of space exploration. Your work will support astronauts in orbit today - and pave the way for missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
