What You'll Do:
The Senior AWS Engineer for Incident Triage & Monitoring is responsible for managing critical IT incidents in a 24/7/365 environment, with a strong focus on AWS infrastructure and application monitoring. This individual must possess hands-on expertise in AWS tools and services, monitoring solutions, incident response, and root cause analysis. The ideal candidate will lead incident triage calls, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes.

What You'll Do:
The Senior AWS Engineer for Incident Triage & Monitoring is responsible for managing critical IT incidents in a 24/7/365 environment, with a strong focus on AWS infrastructure and application monitoring. This individual must possess hands-on expertise in AWS tools and services, monitoring solutions, incident response, and root cause analysis. The ideal candidate will lead incident triage calls, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Manage incidents to resolution using Fannie Mae's incident management protocols in a 24/7/365 environment.
- Monitor applications deployed on AWS and troubleshoot AWS cloud infrastructure issues.
- Build and utilize tools for AWS system resource monitoring and incident triage.
- Conduct performance engineering and transaction monitoring using tools like Dynatrace and Splunk.
- Use AWS services such as EC2, ELB, RDS, Redshift, DynamoDB, Aurora, Route53, ECS, Lambda, S3, Batch, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, WAF, etc.
- Employ monitoring tools including Extrahop, SolarWinds, Netcool, Catchpoint, MoogSoft.
- Analyze application health trends using dashboards and reporting tools.
- Lead incident triage calls, provide technical troubleshooting across infrastructure layers, and ensure functional escalation.
- Perform root cause analysis and support documentation of RCA/COE.
- Proactively respond to alerts, monitor infrastructure, and ensure resolution of issues.
- Participate in on-call rotation and be available for night and weekend shifts as needed.
- Report incident metrics to senior leadership.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of experience across multiple IT infrastructure components such as Unix/Linux, Windows Servers, AWS, networks, firewalls, load balancers, web servers, databases, virtualization, and monitoring systems.
- Senior-level hands-on experience with AWS and its services.
- Strong skills in incident management, monitoring, observability, and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, OpenTel, Catchpoint, xMatters, SignalFx, SolarWinds.
- AWS Solution Architect Associate or higher certification.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical issues to non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to manage incident calls and collaborate with technical teams under pressure.
Set Yourself Apart With:
- Experience managing and troubleshooting Middleware products on UNIX/Linux.
- Background in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Java.
- Prior Fannie Mae or financial industry experience.
- Experience with OpenTel.
