UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking a dynamic Finance Manager to enhance, develop, document, and communicate financial insights to hospital management, Health Services Division (HSD) executives, and UPMC Finance leadership. This pivotal role involves overseeing Financial Analysts, providing guidance, education, and supervision, and partnering with operating personnel to implement new programs and processes effectively.

Responsibilities:

As a Finance Manager, you will:
  • Lead with Enthusiasm: Uphold the philosophy and mission of UPMC by conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in all work situations involving patients, visitors, clinical staff, co-workers, other UPMC staff, and external contacts.
  • Manage Financial Reporting and Analysis: Effectively oversee staff performing various financial reporting and analysis functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Communicate Complex Analyses: Perform statistical analyses and explain findings to non-technical audiences, including internal and external customers and senior management.
  • Identify Improvement Opportunities: Utilize your expert understanding of financial, clinical, and other information to identify opportunities for enhancing clinical and financial performance.
  • Mentor and Develop Staff: Provide mentorship and support for professional development, distributing work assignments and assisting with task and project management.
  • Serve as a Process Expert: Offer training and support to Financial Analysts, ensuring they are equipped to perform their roles effectively.
  • Conduct Cost/Benefit Analyses: Perform thorough cost/benefit analyses to support decision-making processes.
  • Supervise Finance Staff: Oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of finance staff, ensuring deadlines and turnaround times set by hospital management and department finance director &/or CFO are met.
  • Investigate and Resolve Issues: Investigate variances and derive solutions to cost increases and quality issues, ensuring continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or related business field required.
  • Minimum of six years of related work experience required.
  • Minimum of one year managerial or supervisory experience required.
  • A master's degree or CPA license and five years of experience will also be considered.
  • CPA/MBA or equivalent advance degree preferred.
  • Experience in the health care industry preferred.
  • Proficiency in various computer software packages such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PeopleSoft, COGNOS, MRS and Hyperion.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to relate to CFO, Hospital Presidents, senior Hospital administrators, and other Hospital professional and technical personnel.
  • Excellent planning, communication, documentation, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and initiative on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position, with demonstrated competency in customer orientation and the ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Ability to interpret and summarize results of various analyses in a timely and meaningful way.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
