As a Staff Engineer on our Standards team, you will help deliver on our mission of a highly reliable and secure Bulk Power System in the Western Interconnection.

The Staff Engineer will help develop WECC Regional Reliability Standards and Regional Criteria, as well as support the NERC Reliability Standards development process. The Staff Engineer will facilitate WECC drafting teams to ensure compliance with the process for developing and approving WECC Standards and ensuring technical excellence in the content of WECC Regional Reliability Standards and Regional Criteria. They will also work with stakeholder subject matter experts in the Western Interconnection to coordinate WECC responses to NERC standards development activities and perform other work as directed.

You will-

  • Help lead and support WECC drafting teams. This includes guidance in conforming to regional procedures and the technical content of Regional Reliability Standards and Regional Criteria.
  • Work closely with Western Interconnection stakeholders to ensure that the interests of the Western Interconnection are fully incorporated in NERC continent-wide Reliability Standards.
  • Review and evaluate the technical aspects of NERC continent-wide Reliability Standards.
  • Represent WECC staff at NERC drafting team and sub-group meetings.
  • Advise WECC leadership on various technical issues related to Regional Reliability Standards, Regional Criteria, and NERC continent-wide standards.

You will enjoy this role if you-

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in engineering or another related discipline or have an equivalent combination of education and professional work experience resulting in a demonstrated ability to perform major duties.
  • Have three to eight years of experience in either power system operations, planning, or standards development.
  • Have the ability to work with a wide range of people, including other departments as well as industry stakeholder groups.
  • Have excellent business writing and communication skills, including the ability to provide clear, concise, and useful instructions as needed.
  • Are proactive, self-motivated and are able to work independently, taking initiative and completing tasks with minimal external prompting.
  • Have proven success in contributing to a high-performing, results-oriented team.
  • Are enthusiastic about issues affecting the Bulk Power System and the evolving dynamics in the Western Interconnection.

Benefits and Compensation

The base salary range for this full-time position is $96,700 - $120,900 + discretionary pay + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and mid-point for the position across all locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
