About the Role:

What is an art director these days? Part graphic designer, part physical space visualizer, part social sympathizer, part culture-obsessed weirdo? All of the above, we think. It's certainly not the Mad Men era, where lonely illustrators sat in the basement waiting for the writers to give them ideas to draw. We need a modern visual thinker ready to dream up strange new worlds and understand the strategy for how we'll make them real. Can you think of a campaign idea, come up with breakthrough art direction, and even edit video all in one day? Get in touch. The word of the day is adaptability and we're looking for atypical people to help us bring our clients into the modern creative world. And it goes without saying that ideal candidate doesn't want to take orders, but instead partner with strategists, writers, and media experts and think critically about our clients' business, not just their advertising, and bring a sophisticated understanding of the advertising and media landscape today.

Responsibilities of a Sr. Art Director, Creative Lab:
  • Work with our strategist, designers, and Creative Director to ideate campaign concepts across a broad range of clients, from apparel brands to healthcare clients
  • Be a great client collaborator and be willing to push them when needed, but understand their dynamics and show up with empathy, leadership, and positive energy
  • Collaborate with designers, marketers, and other professionals on large- and small-scale projects
  • Partner with team members and external agency partners to deliver high-quality work that is on time, on-brief, on-budget, and on-brand
  • Art Direction, Design, Video
  • Lead creative development across our client portfolio including:
    • Lead development of creative concepts
    • Lead development of creative concepts and develop visual look and feel in an increasingly social-first world
    • Align concepts, visual direction and designs to the business objectives, strategies, audiences, brand strategy & brand standards
    • Use data and insights, platform best practices and industry trends to communicate and connect to creative direction
    • Lead and participate in brainstorming sessions
    • Lean into the design creation (making vs. directing) of various content and campaign specific elements where relevant
  • Lead creative quality and delivery
    • Partner closely with Internal and Freelance team members to bring ideas to life, nurturing collaboration and providing feedback to teams to elevate our work
    • Foster quality of output through application of creative and design best practices, incorporating client feedback and QA process management
    • Identify process improvements that result in increased quality or efficiency within creative approaches, processes or technology
  • Lead client-facing delivery of work
    • Present and iterate on creative ideas, approaches and deliverables with clients
    • Lead presentation development and presentation of creative concepts and visual approach to key stakeholders; navigate feedback discussions
    • Partner with other internal team members from channel teams, marketing, and client services in newly integrated ways
    • In addition to design and art direction skills, we're looking for someone who is also confident in video creation and editing, and even shooting (in an ideal world)
  • Develop thought leadership on trends and creative best practice
    • Lead creative needs during research or strategic phases and use research to inform concepts and visual approach
    • Inspire fresh creative territories

Requirements:
  • 7-10+ years in art direction, design, video
  • 3+ years of managing direct reports
  • Great communication and extensive client management experience
  • Proven track record in leading creative teams
  • Passion for creative in the digital marketing space but an understanding of conceptual thinking in a holistic way is paramount


Pay Transparency

At Ovative, we offer a transparent view into three core components of your total compensation package: Base Salary, Annual Bonus, and Benefits. The salary range for this position below is inclusive of an annual bonus. Actual offers are made with consideration for relevant experience and anticipated impact. Additional benefits information is provided below.

For our Sr. Manager positions, our compensation ranges from $111,000 to $186,000, which is inclusive of a 25% bonus.
