JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's financial operations, including budgeting, payroll, accounting, compliance, and financial reporting. Working closely with the CFO, this role ensures that the organization operates with strong financial discipline and transparency. The Director supports strategic decision-making through accurate financial analysis and reporting, while maintaining internal controls and managing audit processes. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.

JOB DUTIES
  • Oversee daily financial operations including accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and reconciliations.
  • Lead the development, monitoring, and maintenance of the annual budget in collaboration with department heads.
  • Ensure timely preparation and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Support strategic financial planning and cash flow forecasting.
  • Coordinate and lead internal and external audit processes, ensuring readiness and compliance.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal financial regulations.
  • Manage payroll processing and ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Contribute to grant budgeting, reporting, and compliance as needed.
  • Analyze financial trends and provide recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Support the CFO in preparing presentations, reports, and data for board meetings or executive leadership.
  • Supervise finance staff and provide ongoing training and performance management.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit environment.
  • Proficiency in financial systems such as MIP or Sage Intacct; experience with EMR systems like Centricity is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, audit standards, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills; proficiency with Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced

SMART GOALS
  • Ensure all monthly financial statements are submitted on time and with less than a 3% variance.
  • Establish or refine internal financial controls within the first 60 days.
  • Lead the successful completion of the next audit cycle with minimal findings.
  • Maintain updated, accurate revenue and expense tracking tools accessible by executive leadership.
  • Partner with department heads to deliver quarterly budget variance reports with actionable insights.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands, reach with arms, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Standard office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.

Occupational Risk for Exposure to TB:

There is an occupational risk for exposure to TB, as this position involves extensive community and patient contact. Employees in this role are required to comply with annual TB testing as part of workplace health and safety protocols. The only acceptable exceptions to this requirement are documented medical contraindications or religious objections. Employees who decline TB testing will be required to wear a mask when deemed necessary.
