Position Summary
In collaboration with Chief Nursing Officer and leadership, this position is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of nursing professional development, clinical education, evidence-based practice, academic partnerships, professional governance, and transition-to-practice programs. This role ensures alignment of nursing excellence initiatives with the organization's mission, vision, and goals to promote high-quality, patient-centered care. The director collaborates across departments and leadership teams to drive clinical excellence, support workforce development, and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Responsibilities
Leads the Center for Nursing Excellence, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices
Oversees nursing education, professional development, simulation, transition-to-practice, BSN accelerated programs and student services
Drives ANCC Magnet designation, professional governance, and shared decision-making
Develops and implements nursing education programs, competency validation, and workforce development initiatives
Strengthens academic partnership and enhances clinical training opportunities
Evaluations nursing and clinical pipeline strategies relevant to organizational needs and strategic vision
Aligns nursing practice with professional standards and regulatory requirements
Fosters innovation, evidence-based practice, and continuous quality improvement
Expands simulation-based learning and experiential education
Collaborates with nursing leadership, interdisciplinary teams, quality, people & culture, and external partners
Manages budgeting, resource allocation, and performance metrics to maximize efficiency
Leads strategic initiatives and drives organizational change in nursing excellence
Acts as a content expert and resource, interpreting and integrating the Magnet standards into nursing practice
Performs other related duties as assigned
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Nursing required
State of Idaho Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multistate privilege to practice" compact with Idaho required
Minimum 5 years' nursing leadership experience in hospital and healthcare required
Specialty certification in nursing leadership within one year of hire (CENP, NEA-BC, NE-BC, or relevant other certification) required
Demonstrated business acumen and management skills associated with budgeting, program development, planning, and execution
Project management experience preferred
Knowledge of clinical information and computer systems, as well as coding, billing, and reimbursement relative to service offerings
Knowledge of negotiations and change management
Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements
Excellent and proven leadership skills incorporating accountability, open communication, and team building
Working Conditions
Must be able to lift and move up to 10lbs
Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
Typical equipment used in a clinical job
Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
