We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to join our leadership team at our engineering firm in Pittsburgh, PA. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the firm's financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in professional services or engineering-related industries and be comfortable managing a team while driving process improvements and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and cash management.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support business planning and decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations and financial reporting requirements.
- Maintain internal controls and recommend improvements to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Work closely with project managers to track project performance, costs, and profitability.
- Manage the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
- Assist leadership in strategic planning, including financial risk assessment and cost-benefit analysis.
- Evaluate and implement accounting systems and software upgrades (e.g., Deltek, QuickBooks, or similar).
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff; manage hiring and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 4-7years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in engineering, architecture, or construction industries strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Proficient in accounting and ERP systems (Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint is a plus).
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data visualization tools a plus.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
