About the Role
As a Senior Structural Engineer at Z Modular, you will play a key role in leading the design and analysis of modular steel buildings. This position requires expertise in structural analysis, steel connections, and compliance with industry standards. You will collaborate with a dynamic team of engineers and stakeholders to mentor junior engineers, develop design standards, and oversee projects from pre-design through to installation. This role offers the opportunity to directly contribute to shaping the future of modular construction and ensures high-quality standards in the design and implementation of structural projects. This is an on-site role located in Troy, MI.
This role is perfect for someone who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and skilled in AutoCAD, Revit, and structural analysis software, with a passion for advancing the modular construction industry.
What You'll Do
Perform structural analysis and design of steel modular structures, including steel connections - ensuring design accuracy and structural integrity.
Develop and maintain design spreadsheets for project documentation - streamlining processes and improving team efficiency.
Ensure compliance with structural codes and industry standards - conducting regular reviews and ensuring adherence.
Prepare and review structural plans, details, and documentation - providing clear, detailed plans for implementation.
Collaborate with design teams and site teams to ensure project alignment and execution - fostering smooth communication and workflow across teams.
Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy - ensuring safety is prioritized on all projects.
Perform other duties as assigned - remaining flexible to take on various tasks as needed.
Who You Are
15+ years of experience in structural design and analysis, specializing in steel structures.
Bachelor's degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering with a structural focus.
Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional jurisdictions.
Strong knowledge of building codes and industry standards.
Eligible to work in the United States.

Proficiency in Excel and AutoCAD or Revit for structural design and documentation.
Experience with structural analysis software such as RISA-3D, ETABS, SAP2000, or similar programs.
Strong structural design, analysis, and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach.
Knowledge of sustainable design practices and innovative materials in structural engineering.
Ability to adapt to new technologies and evolving design methodologies.
Lead and mentor less experienced engineers, reviewing their work for accuracy and quality.
Oversee and approve structural calculations, drawings, and reports to ensure compliance with standards.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders to align project goals.
Manage multiple projects efficiently, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports, presentations, and client interactions.
Ability to work both independently and within a team to drive project success.
