The Senior IT Configuration Engineer will play a key role in the planning, deployment, configuration, and management of enterprise endpoint and virtualization solutions using Microsoft Intune, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), VMware, and Microsoft Azure. As part of a dynamic IT team, this role delivers lifecycle support, engineering, and operations services to ensure the secure, efficient, and uninterrupted availability of INL/A Management Information Systems. This position supports the Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Office of Aviation (INL/A), contributing to global missions that advance national security and international stability.

Responsibilities
- Lead the design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise device management solutions using Microsoft Intune and SCCM.
- Manage and optimize endpoint provisioning, compliance policies, application deployment, patch management, and mobile device management (MDM) strategies across hybrid cloud/on-prem environments.
- Configure and manage VMware infrastructure, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, resource pools, templates, and virtual networking to ensure performance, availability, and scalability.
- Administer and support Microsoft Azure environments, including Azure AD, virtual machines, resource groups, storage accounts, and integration with endpoint management solutions.
- Develop and maintain baseline configurations for Windows operating systems, ensuring compliance with security standards and best practices.
- Automate system deployment, software distribution, and configuration tasks using PowerShell, Configuration Items (CIs), and Task Sequences.
- Monitor the performance, health, and utilization of systems and virtualized environments; proactively identify and resolve issues to maintain service availability.
- Support system design, engineering, and implementation across the full lifecycle: requirements analysis, architecture, integration, testing, and operational handoff.
- Collaborate with security, networking, and application teams to enforce policies, meet compliance standards, and prepare for audits.
- Provide technical guidance and support for system migrations, including transitions to Azure cloud services and modern device management platforms.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Intune and SCCM, including co-management and application packaging.
- Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi, vCenter Server, and related virtualization technologies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Azure services integration.
- Strong PowerShell scripting skills for automation and system administration.
- Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and GPO management.
- Experience with security and compliance tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, CIS benchmarks).
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Document engineering procedures, configurations, and processes for knowledge sharing and repeatable operations.
- Participate in technical reviews to validate proposed solutions aligning with mission and customer requirements.
- Travel may be required for project deployments or assessments (CONUS, OCONUS).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field OR
- Associate's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Education requirement may be substituted with an additional 4+ years of relevant experience.
- 10+ years relevant experience.
- Secret clearance required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven experience in engineering and developing various IT hardware and software solutions, analyzing systems and requirements, experimenting and testing, performing vulnerability and security assessments, and developing and integrating complex IT solutions.
- Knowledge of Agile methodology and experience with JIRA, ITSM, CMDB, and similar tools is highly desired.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written, with solid presentation skills, both verbal and written.
