Role description
Arcadis Canada is seeking a Senior Engineer, Environmental, Health and Safety to join our Sustainable Operations team. In this role, you will provide expert guidance and support to industrial and commercial clients, helping them navigate complex federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations. You will play a key role in business development, regulatory compliance assessments, and consultation on environmental health and safety (EHS) matters. Your expertise will also contribute to the development of environmental management systems, conducting audits, preparing technical reports, and engaging with regulatory agencies.
This position offers the opportunity to work alongside a diverse team of professionals, helping clients implement innovative solutions that prioritize compliance, sustainability, and operational excellence. With your strong technical background and communication skills, you will also lead client interactions, deliver training, and provide actionable insights to enhance EHS performance across various industries.
Role accountabilities
As a Senior Engineer, Environmental, Health and Safety, you will support business development activities by engaging with clients to assess their needs, prepare proposals, deliver presentations, and conduct training. Leveraging your expertise, you will provide consultation on EHS compliance issues, help clients develop and review policies and programs, and offer technical opinions to address complex regulatory challenges.
You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their permit-related and compliance program requirements while liaising with regulatory agencies on their behalf. Your role will involve providing technical direction and implementing environmental compliance programs that meet federal, provincial, and local regulations. This includes evaluating EHS compliance at client facilities, identifying gaps, and recommending practical, actionable improvements.
Additionally, you will contribute to the configuration and integration of environmental compliance management systems, ensuring alignment with client needs. You will lead or assist with site visits, audits, and meetings while preparing high-quality reports and proposals. As part of our commitment to excellence, you will also oversee the management of internal quality systems in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.

The salary range for this position is $95,000-178,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.

Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in EHS compliance and environmental/health and safety management support, with at least the last 8 years in a consulting role.
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of federal and provincial environmental laws, regulations, and programs, with demonstrated ability to apply regulatory requirements at the facility level.
- Working experience in conducting Environmental Compliance Management Assessments and Audits pertaining to:
- Halocarbon Regulations, PCB management, Pest Control, Fuel Storage Tank Systems, Spills and Emergency Response, Wastewater Management, Waste and Hazardous Waste, Hazardous Materials Management, Air Emissions Management, Land and Wildlife.
- Select, lead and develop EHS project-based teams, to ensure they have the necessary skills to deliver on client projects, they understand and are engaged with the project strategy, brief and client requirements, and to manage their delivery of project objectives; coach and mentor engineering professionals to support the development of Arcadis' talent pool within EHS Compliance Management.
- Develop strong, partnering relationships with clients to identify business opportunities and influence their decision making; lead specific technical aspects to support the production of high-quality winning bids.
- Build strong working relationships with other internal teams and technical disciplines to foster cooperation identifying cross-sell and trade-up opportunities;
- Keep up to date with developments in the industry sector and with technical and legislative developments and seek out opportunities to develop a strong professional profile at an area level (e.g. conference presentations, publications and participation in technical committees).
- Extensive experience working with formal management systems, such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications such as EP(EMSLA), EP(CEA), or equivalent.
- Designations such as CRSP or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
