Assistant Principal - Monticello High School
1 FTE (240 Day Contract)
Available July 1, 2025

Position Summary: Monticello High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Assistant Principal to join our leadership team. This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the high school, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment, and providing direct support for student behavior and intervention systems. In addition, the Assistant Principal will serve as the lead administrator for the Alternative Learning Programs (ALP & Online) housed within the high school. Key Responsibilities:
Building Operations & Student Support (60%)
  • Collaborate with the principal and administrative team to ensure smooth daily operations of the building.
  • Oversee student behavior systems, including proactive intervention strategies, restorative practices, and development of individualized support plans.
  • Partners with counselors, special education staff, and behavior interventionists to ensure students' academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs are met.
  • Serve as a member of the student support team, responding to student behavior referrals and facilitating restorative or disciplinary responses.
  • Supervise arrival/dismissal, hallway transitions, lunchroom, and other unstructured times to promote a positive school climate.

Alternative Learning Program (ALP) Oversight (10%)
  • Provide leadership for the Alternative Learning Program, ensuring alignment with district standards and goals.
  • Collaborate with ALP staff to create personalized learning environments that meet students' academic and behavioral needs.
  • Monitor program effectiveness, student progress, and staff collaboration within the ALP.
  • Partner with district and building teams to refer, evaluate, and transition students into and out of the program as appropriate.
  • Oversee summer school and credit recovery programming

Online Learning Program Oversight (30%)
  • Oversee the high school's online learning program, including scheduling, staffing, student enrollment, and program quality.
  • Support students and families participating in online coursework to ensure academic success and appropriate support.
  • Monitor student progress, attendance, and engagement in online learning platforms.
  • Ensure the online program adheres to district policies and meets state education standards.

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Support school-wide initiatives
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and staff to promote a positive, inclusive school culture.
  • Serve as a liaison between departments, ensuring strong communication and shared ownership of student success.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of professional learning for staff.
  • Support teacher growth and evaluation in collaboration with the principal.


Education and Certification:
  • Required: Principal's license issued by the State of Minnesota.
  • Preferred: Teaching license issued by the State of Minnesota.
  • Required: Valid Minnesota driver's license and the ability to drive between District buildings.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior leadership experience in secondary education.
  • Strong understanding of alternative education models and online learning platforms.
  • Demonstrated success in working with students require academic, behavioral, or emotional support.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to student-centered practices within a team approach.
