The Graphic Design Manager provides creative and supervisory direction to the US graphic design team, ensuring effective, consistent and compelling visual presentation of the Mayer Brown brand and efficient delivery of work product. This individual is a hands-on designer, devoting approximately 75% of his/her time to executing graphic design projects. The remaining 25% of time is devoted to managerial responsibilities, including overseeing schedules and quality control for the US team's projects and collaborating with senior designers in London and So Paulo. This role also assists with management of relationships with outside marketing and printing agencies in coordination with the Assistant Director: Brand and Design.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
  • Provides creative and supervisory direction to the US graphic design team, ensuring effective, consistent and compelling visual presentation of the Mayer Brown brand and efficient delivery of work product
  • Evaluates communication concept outlined by practice marketing staff to determine appropriate design product and approach
  • Creates print and digital materials based on the firm's established brand and visual identity
  • Maintains relationships with vendors, including exerting quality control over all projects and ensuring on-time delivery of vendor materials
  • Implements design concepts and principles, as detailed in the firm's brand guidelines, and adapts them to new communications deliverables and production requirements
  • Creates templates and style sheets for materials produced in the US by internal and external design resources
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives


Qualifications

Education/Training/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, required


Professional Experience:
  • Minimum of six years of creative/graphic design experience, required
  • Previous supervisory experience, required


Technical Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of design (UX and print) and printing processes; experience working with vendors; strong knowledge of, and sensitivity to, use of typography and imagery, required
  • Expertise in all components of the Adobe Creative Suite, as well as design and formatting tools in MS Word and PowerPoint, required


Performance Traits:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels of the Firm and outside vendors
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines with shifting priorities
  • Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative
  • Strong customer service skills, able to anticipate needs and exercise independent judgment
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion
  • Exercises solid strategic thinking and problem-solving skills


Management Accountabilities:
  • Processes for direct reports in regard to performance appraisals, annual compensation, goal setting and performance counseling
  • Operational budget analysis and recommendations
  • Analysis of staffing levels and participation in the recruitment process
  • Implementation of change processes to improve workflow efficiencies


The typical pay scale for this position is between $113,200 and $149,700, although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate's education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
