Position Overview:
Reporting to the Sound Transit Government Affairs and Community Relations Manager, this position will serve as SDOT's Sound Transit 3 Engagement and Partnerships Advisor (under the City's classification title of Strategic Advisor 1, CSPI&P). This position will plan and lead community and stakeholder engagement across departments and agencies to meet the needs of the city team and to advocate for Sound Transit engagement that elevates racial equity and considers and incorporates the needs of community in the design of the stations and alignment for the West Seattle and Ballard Link Extension (WSBLE).

Position Overview:

Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert and key advisor to the to the SDOT Sound Transit Program Director, Government Affairs & Community Relations Manager, the City's ST3 Designated Representative, and the Mayor's Office on overarching engagement strategies for Sound Transit 3 investments, including WSBLE.
- Bring a strategic stakeholder lens to executive discussions, especially around decisions impacting high priority communities (such as Seattle Center, stations within the Industrial and Maritime zoning areas, RET-priority communities at Delridge and Chinatown International District) as well as communities where the City leadership directs us to focus (including South Lake Union, Chinatown International District, and Pioneer Square).
- Participate in discussions and negotiations leading up to the anticipated Board action in 2024 on a final project to be built, which may include a third-party funding agreement from the City of Seattle.
- On-going monitoring of the programs work to identify engagement opportunities for the various stakeholders.
- Coordinate community requests for involvement, develop outreach materials, and attend public meetings as the City's representative on highly political and potentially controversial issues.
- Ensure that the many internal City stakeholders are communicating with one Seattle voice.
- Identify potentially controversial issues and providing targeted engagement strategies, as needed.
- Ensure City leadership is well prepared for public engagement/meetings.
- Support of department goals to promote diversity and social justice.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three (3)+ years' experience planning and leading community engagement initiatives.
- Bachelors' degree in Public Policy, Behavioral Science, Community Planning, or related field.
Successful candidates will possess many of these additional qualifications or be able to demonstrate comparable experience and expertise:
- Demonstrated success working with large, multi-disciplinary, and multi-agency team.
- Experience working with public officials, media, and the community.
- Community engagement experience with large-scale infrastructure projects such as light-rail projects.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to race and social justice and experience leading engagement efforts that center racial equity.
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
- Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment with hybrid options at this time.
- Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather and possible construction sites.
- Some evening and weekend work may be necessary to meet the demands of this position.
