Northrop Grumman Mission Systems located in Baltimore, MD has an opening for an Environmental Test Engineering Manager 2. You will be a part of the Environmental System Test team providing multi-sector support of product development, design, simulation, verification & product qualification across a full spectrum of Mil-Std 810G, 461D/2 & 464 environments.

The responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Oversees the execution of Mil-Std 810G Environmental Testing and product qualification efforts in a highly dynamic lab environment.
  • Oversees projects and tasks assigned to the organizational group performed by non-exempt and exempt employees. Leads and assists in meeting schedules and resolving technical or operational challenges. Accomplishes results through group leads and exempt employees.
  • Executes department procedures that typically affect individual employees within own department. Policy management, interprets and executes policies and procedures that typically affect subordinate organizational units. Recommends modifications to operating policies.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Accomplishes results through lower-level subordinate supervisors or through experienced exempt employees who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments.
  • Manages a segment of a program or a function. Responsible for the direct supervision/management of the staff. Responsible for providing objective-oriented direction to subordinates utilizing management guidelines & general policies.
  • Manages a team of System Test engineers, providing System Test process guidance during all phases of test planning, preparation, execution, and closeout of environmental test activities.
  • Works in a high energy environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative team settings across all levels.
  • Attends weekly program and management meetings, representing the Environmental Test Organization.
  • Brief lab status at Test Readiness Reviews and Shift Change meetings, ensuring Program information is flowed down to all team members.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines, including but not limited to, Facilities, Quality, Safety, Program Management, Systems Engineering, Mission Assurance, and the Mission Systems & Space Sectors, to ensure that Environmental Testing is accomplished safely, efficiently, and meets all quality standards.
  • Manages and reports budget and schedule status during monthly budget reviews for Environmental Test efforts.
  • Identifies and manages risks and opportunities.
  • Manages asset utilization for all Capital lab assets, deconflicting between active programs, engineering development, and R&D activities across MS and SP sectors.
  • Manages material budgets, working with Material Control Specialists to place timely orders and track procurement.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university, and 8 years industry experience; or a Master's degree and 6 years of related experience; or 12 years of related experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Mil-Std 810G Environmental Testing, Dynamics, Thermal Vacuum, and Space Simulation testing
  • Experience in IPT role or leadership position.
  • Must have an Active in Scope DOD Top Secret Clearance; and the ability to obtain a special Program Access (PAR).
  • (US Citizenship required).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience and understanding of Climatics, Dynamics, Thermal Vacuum and Space Simulation testing in development environment.
  • Experience with system test and building automation tools/frameworks.
  • Master's degree in engineering or management
  • Experience as a CAM


Salary Range: $149,400.00 - $224,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
