We are seeking a communications professional who is a strategic thinker with political experience and interest in working in the aviation industry. The role will report to the Director of Communications and Public Affairs in the Washington Office and work closely with the global government affairs team.

- Assist the Director of Global Communications and Public Affairs in developing and executing external communications strategies to achieve our legislative and public policy goals in Washington, as well as on state and local issues.
- Develop and foster strong media relationships with transportation, aviation, regulatory and other D.C.-based media and stakeholders.
- Work with aviation stakeholders and partners to advocate for the company's policy priorities.
- Support rapid response and crisis communications, including creating and developing an internal and external communications plan.
- Support sustainability communications as needed, including drafting and development of communications plans and content.
- Draft content for an array of audiences and platforms, especially for team members to help communicate our priorities internally.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, 24/7 environment to help lead American's communications effort.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- 6 years relevant work experience in communications in a corporate, government, or agency setting
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- 5 years' experience on campaigns, on Capitol Hill or in the Executive branch
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Collaborates effectively with other managers and department leadership
- Excellent writing and verbal skills
- Good media management skills
- Ability to think and plan proactively
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to adapt and respond quickly to changing landscapes and to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
