The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is a regulatory agency that reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming (casino, lottery, and charitable gaming), horse racing, and cannabis sectors in Ontario, in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.
The Audit and Financial Investigations (AFI) Branch works collaboratively with other compliance branches to enable effective regulatory risk management and improve regulatory outcomes. AFI carries out risk-based audits and reviews across all our regulated sectors, provides advice and insights to internal partners, and delivers objective and reliable results that support effective regulatory responses. We are seeking a dynamic team player for the Operational Auditor role within the AFI Branch. In this role, you will be responsible for executing the risk-based audit plan which would involve execution of regulatory assurance and compliance audits across all of AGCO's regulated lines of business by conducting audits or projects. The successful candidate will also provide expert advice regarding the state of policies, procedures, and internal controls as it relates to regulations; as well as conducts investigative audits when issues arise.

We are seeking a dynamic team player for the Operational Auditor role within the AFI Branch. In this role, you will be responsible for executing the risk-based audit plan which would involve execution of regulatory assurance and compliance audits across all of AGCO's regulated lines of business by conducting audits or projects. The successful candidate will also provide expert advice regarding the state of policies, procedures, and internal controls as it relates to regulations; as well as conducts investigative audits when issues arise.
In this role, the successful candidate will but not limited to:
- Ensuring assigned audit projects are executed and delivered on schedule through determining priorities, and appropriate audit assurance is applied during field execution to determine the extent of the control gap or integrity issue.
- Participating in a supporting role in the development of the annual audit plan for all assigned lines of business.
- In coordination with the Senior Operational Auditor, conducting risk assessment of iAGCO notification submissions or other compliance notifications, preliminary decision making and analysis, and providing draft recommendations to mitigate regulatory risks.
- Collaborate with colleagues both within the branch and other branches on cross-functional initiatives and foster effective working relationships with our stakeholders.
- Contribute to the transformation of our function by delivering on modernization and development initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have:
- In depth knowledge of auditing internal controls and business processes that has been gained through experience and formal post-secondary education.
- Professional accounting or auditing designation (CPA or CIA) is an asset.
- Knowledge and understanding of the gaming, liquor, cannabis, and horse-racing industries, and their suppliers and participants
- Thorough knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices in industries with varying financial, accounting and control systems.
- Advanced skills in Excel and/or other data analysis tools.
- Extensive knowledge of, and can adeptly interpret the relevant Acts, Regulations, Standards, Procedures and Policies as well as the control environment in which the auditee operates.
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple projects and complete complex assignments for the department.
- Strong oral and written communication and report writing skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion.
- Political acuity to manage sensitive and high-profile issues and incidents.
- Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills to engage, understand and align expectations.
- The flexibility to work variable hours, as well as weekends and statutory holidays may occasionally be required.
- A valid Ontario driver's licence (travel throughout the province is necessary).
- The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check.
