Position Responsibilities
Collect patient health data relevant to the operative and invasive procedure throughout the perioperative continuum.
Perioperatively performs a focused nursing assessment in reference to planned procedure.
Intraoperatively assess patient, wound and sterile field.
Monitors and assesses patients' postoperative status to determine progress toward expected outcomes or signs and symptoms of postoperative complications.
Analyzes, formulates and modifies nursing diagnosis based on relevant patient data throughout the perioperative continuum as applicable to RNFA interventions.
Identifies and communicates desired patient outcomes throughout the perioperative continuum. Establishes individualized outcomes in collaboration with patient, designated support person or health care provider based on identified nursing diagnosis as applicable to RNFA interventions.
Analyzes and modifies postoperative outcomes compared to baseline nursing assessment.
Develops and manages and individualized plan of care that directs the intervention of the RNFA.
Selects, analyzes and interprets relevant data to develop a plan of care based on the nursing process that meets individual patients needs, is age specific, and reflects professionally recognized standards of care.
Plans for patient discharge, accessing community resources as necessary.
Implements, manages, and coordinates the perioperative plan of care related to RNFA interventions.
Applies nursing knowledge as the basis for effective problem solving and decision making when providing perioperative patient care.
Verifies operative procedure, surgical site and laterality.
Participates in positioning the patient in collaboration with the surgeon anesthesia professional, and other members of the perioperative team.
Functions as first assistant to the primary surgeon during operative or other invasive procedures and throughout the perioperative continuum in accordance with scope of practice, credentials, privileges, education and experience.
Minimizes the length of the operative or invasive procedure and maximizes surgeon's efficiency of movement within the surgical wound.
Implements and maintains sterile technique to prevent patient exposure to microorganisms and other particulates.
Protects the patient from thermal, electrical, chemical, or mechanical injury throughout the perioperative continuum. Implement hemostasis techniques.
Implements measures to prevent injury related to retained surgical items.
Makes postoperative rounds in conjunction with or at the direction of the surgeon as determined by health care organization policy and guidelines of practice.
Provides individualized patient, designated support person, or health care provider education regarding identified needs related to RNFA interventions.
Facilitate preoperative procedure.
Assist with placement of invasive lines as needed.
Harvest saphenous veins and radial arteries and assist in the operating room as needed.
Prepare harvested saphenous vein/radial artery for coronary artery bypass grafting including making and closing incisions.
Assist attending surgeon as either a first or second assistant.
Participate in teaching fundamental operating room techniques including aspect technique, trying knots, Hemostasis, tissue handling, wound closure and operating room techniques.
Act as a consultant to operating room and house staff personnel concerning cardiac surgery protocols and patient care as designated by the supervising physician.
Conducts a systematic and ongoing evaluation measuring the effectiveness of RNFA interventions in relation to achieving identified outcomes.
Systematically evaluates quality of nursing practice. Participate in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities to improve patient outcomes related to RNFA practice.
Complies with health care organization policies related to RNFA practice and provides care consistent with facility policies and procedures.
Work cooperatively with coworkers, physicians and supervisors. Display ability to adjust to variable work schedule and patient volume
All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Current Florida RN License
BLS required
CNOR Required
CRNFA Required
Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred
2 years in area of specialty required (Cardiothoracic/Open heart)
