Additionally there are opportunities for clinical research based on the interest of the faculty member. The full-time academic position is open to a physician who is trained in child abuse or in general pediatrics with a strong interest in child abuse.

The Department of Pediatrics has a strong record of academic achievement and provides education to pediatric residents, medical students, and numerous subspecialty fellows via electives, lectures, and other clinical experience. The UAB Child Abuse Pediatrics Division has an active clinical & academic program providing medical consultative services for more than half of the state. The division provides inpatient and outpatient consultations at the Children's of Alabama, a private, non-profit children's hospital (332 beds) which is a Level 1 Trauma Center and is the only free-standing children's hospital in the state with a complete complement of subspecialty services. The new faculty member will join an established team consisting of the following: 1 full-time MD, 1 full-time NP, 2 part-time MDs, and 1 part-time NP. In addition, there is a large full service pediatric SANE program providing 24/7/365 service for pediatric assault victims in the ED. Outpatient consultations are seen in the CHIPS Center (Children's Hospital Intervention & Prevention Services) immediately adjacent to the hospital. The CHIPS Center is part of the CAP Division and includes 2 social work case managers, a PSANE RN, and several counselors providing counseling and community child abuse preventative services in addition to the medical services. The CHIPS Center is the primary medical resource for 18 of the 35 child advocacy centers in Alabama.
