The Administrative Director of Pharmacy provides fiscal and strategic pharmacy leadership across the health system through personnel performance, coordination, and delegation and is responsible for the successful achievement of strategic institutional and health system goals and objectives, optimizing resources and maintaining compliance with all regulatory bodies. The Administrative Director of Pharmacy will lead Augusta Health in the provision of contemporary pharmacy services to inpatients and outpatients through highly reliable, safe and efficient medication use systems, direct patient care services, and collaboration with other healthcare providers. This position reports to the Vice President of Professional Services and is also accountable to the Chief Physician Executive and the Chief Operating Officer.

EXECUTES STRATEGY BY:
Developing and implementing a strategic vision for pharmacy services.
Driving initiative development and execution as it relates to advancing Pharmacy strategic initiatives.
Scanning the competitive environment, leading business planning process, and providing strategies to drive profitable service line growth while reducing costs per case.
Partnering closely with senior executives, sales and marketing executives, and service line management to enable growth strategies.
Developing business case, including financials, for new program development and capital projects.
Identifying and driving new physician and volume opportunities for the organization insuring alignment with clinical leaders.
Working together with marketing and physician relations executives to promote the services to physicians and consumers.
Collaborating with physicians to develop and foster positive working relationships.

INCREASES OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY BY:
Overseeing the pharmaceutical contracting, procurement, receiving, security, inventory control and distribution processes.
Monitoring key operational and financial metrics for improvement opportunities.
Driving process improvement within the pharmacy and health system, in regard to medication management, to increase safety, team member engagement, and provider satisfaction.
Enabling finding solutions to problems that get in the way of differentiated service.
Working with hospital administrative team and department director(s) for program development, implementation, execution monitoring, and evaluation of services at the hospital and offsite locations.
Ensuring physician and professional staff have the necessary equipment to perform.
Participating in health system annual budgeting process related to service line.
Supporting the recruitment process to secure staffing talent.

IMPROVES CLINICAL OUTCOMES BY:
Ensuring the design, process implementation, and management of an accountable, safe, and effective medication use system.
Ensuring systems for the safe and secure storage and distribution of controlled substances.
Supporting a positive patient experience by providing optimal cost-effective delivery of services by physicians and professional staff within a safe department.
Ensuring that oversight, processes, and resources are in place to improve clinical outcomes.
Enabling clinical excellence by aligning goals with the clinical leaders and removing barriers for clinical practice as needed.
Communicating to clinical leaders any matters that can affect the clinical operations and deferring clinical judgments to those leaders.
Participating in rounding with patients and meeting with physicians and staff to ensure a high-quality patient experience.
Collaborating with the health system providers, clinical leaders, and informatics specialists focusing on accurate data collection and advocating for evidence-based medicine practice to improve patient outcomes.

  • Relevant experience and advanced knowledge of health system pharmacy services.

Required:
PharmD
MBA/MHA or similar degree
Pharmacist license by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Minimum of seven years progressive leadership experience with increasing responsibility for the management and supervision of pharmacy personnel with emphasis on pharmacy systems, practice management, operational policies and procedures, medication safety, pharmacy informatics, automation, and technology.

Preferred:
Master's degree - Pharmacy Administration
Lean Certification
Certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties. Completion of a Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency
