Your Role:

The role of Director Global Strategic Accounts combines a great mix of strategic thinking and business development with a strong focus on business results and intense customer and stakeholder management.

This position will have strategic responsibility for a critical Global Strategic Account (GSA). You operate in a matrixed environment but take ultimate accountability for the global performance for the entire full Process Solutions Portfolio. You will be responsible for overall global revenue, consolidated sales forecast, and driving global commercial agreements including MSA's, and pricing negotiations. You will be responsible to develop and communicate a multi-year global PS account strategy with agreement from the Franchise and regional leadership, to help drive its execution, and ensuring the feedback loop to keep the strategy current at every iteration. You will serve as primary point of contact and advocate for your GSA account. This involves understanding and addressing customer needs, solving complex problems based on analytical thought, and aligning with the region and business leadership to ensure commitment of resources to efficiently support your growth objectives of the account. You will ensure that key SFDC programs like molecule mapping and growth project funnel are kept current and consistent with our strategy. In collaboration with the franchise/Region/functional teams you will anticipate customer needs and boost customer adoption of Merck technologies by early adopters. You will be required to build excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders (technical & commercial). A key focus for you is constant improvement of customer relationships to establish true strategic partnerships up to C-level. You encourage critical review of internal processes and provide constructive input fostering a continuous improvement and innovative mindset.

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS degree with 7-10+ years' experience within strategic/key account management and/or similar relevant commercial experience including managing large global accounts in the Life Science, Pharma, and/or Chemical industry.
  • Proven business development and negotiation skills including closing of significant deals.
  • Strong strategic and creative thinker with a high-level of independent drive for results and perseverance, acting in a professional and positive manner.
  • High level of customer focus and ability to build effective relationships based on integrity, trust and mutual respect.
  • Ability to analyze, prioritize, and validate complex and dynamic information from a diverse range of external and internal sources and develop the co-creation product concepts, ideas and recommendations for the business.
  • Ability to travel globally up to 30%.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a scientific discipline or business.
  • Second language a plus.
  • Experience working in a diverse and multicultural environment; high emotional intelligence, effective facilitator and collaborator - naturally navigating a global matrix.
  • Excellent communication skills/stakeholder management skills, inspiring internal and external partners to 'buy in', creating commitment and trust at different levels of an organization.

Role can be based anywhere in the US or Switzerland/surrounding European areas

Pay Range for this position: $153,500 - $230,300
