Job Description
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the review of fire system designs and criteria development for institutional and detention and corrections projects. Develop, review and approve scope of work information for the development of fire system designs and modifications; evaluate vendor bids; review and advise on contracts; and evaluate acceptance testing documentation of installed fire protection and life safety systems. Develop and maintain work programs and procedures for: best practices and trends in fire control program design; conducting and coordinating fire protection consultants; assessing compliance with applicable codes and standards; identify fire hazards, risks and deficiencies; recommend modifications in fire protection measures or procedures; and incorporating approved changes into existing fire control.
Provide advice on engineering data, designs and specifications, contract award, planning and installation phases for projects by reviewing fire systems engineering bid packages for new and replacement equipment with detailed specifications.
Plans, coordinates, prioritizes, monitors, guides, reviews and conducts work activities associated with department/internal/external projects in accordance with established task objectives and schedule as outlined in the project plan/contract.
Builds and maintains positive internal work relationships and coordinates with clients the need for major fire systems modifications and equipment replacement by interacting with the clients team, providing contract administration and construction coordination on all projects to promote positive inter-departmental work relationships and coordination to ensure successful completion of various business unit projects.
Reviews and coordinates consultants review of engineering designs and modifications to fire protection systems; and develops documentation as necessary.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university majoring in fire protection engineering or related field
OR 5 years of experience in the design or plan review of fire and/or life safety systems.
5 to 7 years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in fire systems engineering, design, or plan review/inspections at institutional and detention and corrections facilities with responsibility for planning and directing fire and life system review, inspection, design and analysis, solving operating problems, writing technical specifications, writing technical, analytical reports and working with the authority having jurisdiction.
Professional Fire Protection Engineer License, California certified.
State drivers license.
