POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager of Pricing and Promotion Optimization will play a crucial role in redefining and operationalizing Ulta Beauty's competitive pricing strategy and execution as well as continuing the progress and evolution of promotion optimization to maximize profitability through strong collaboration with Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, Legal, and Strategy business partners.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Competitive Pricing
    • Strategy - Partner on the development and implementation pricing strategies that align with business, category, and brand objectives, market conditions, promotion strategies, and competitive landscape.
    • Market Analysis - Partner with external vendor on Price captures both in stores and online to identify pricing opportunities, gaps, and threats. Monitor industry trends and competitive pricing strategies, including impacts to sales, margin, and market share.
    • Price Setting and Execution - Key leader in assessing opportunities and driving top line incremental sales in support of short- and long-term company financial goals. Lead the process and collaborate with Merchandising and Merchandise Strategy to set prices for new and existing products. Develop pricing guidelines and policies to ensure transparency.
    • Analytics - Implement pricing analytics tools and methodologies to track performance metrics and measure pricing effectiveness to assess value and identify areas for top line sales and margin improvement. Develop, prepare, and deliver regular reporting and insights on pricing performance, including actual versus expected results.
    • Vendor Management - Manage vendor relationships, continuously evaluating current and future needs against capabilities.

  • Promotions
    • Strategy - Collaborate on company, category, and brand promotional strategies, utilizing key insights of past performance and of future expectations, balancing the promo mix with impacts from marketing, newness, and base trends. Deliver promotional analytical insights at an enterprise level, identifying risks and opportunities, while partnering to develop tools and analysis at category, brand, subsegment levels.
    • Change Management - Responsible for creating a strong continuous improvement environment and driving change with continued partnership on training and optimization, ensuring consistent and clear on-going communication on exception reporting, workflow status, and best practices to drive operational excellence and high accountability.
    • Planning & Optimization - Key leader in assessing strategic promotional opportunities and increasing profitable sales in support of company value and enterprise strategic initiatives. Drive collaboration with Merchandising and Strategy teams through deep insights and analytics to develop plans that align with sales and profit goals and deliver end-to-end financial results and value. Provide expertise while guiding and empowering Merchant and Planning teams on Promo Optimization tool insights to enable promotion decisions.
    • Execution - Contribute to the continuous improvement of promotion optimization software application, inclusive of future enhancements and efficiencies while engaging all business leaders and vendor partners in the vision.
  • Team Leadership
  • Manage and mentor Pricing Analyst, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Actively create a positive culture of team-centered, high performance aligned with Ulta Beauty's core values, leading with honest, direct and timely feedback.
  • Model inclusive leadership presence within Pricing team and across Merchandising

REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION:
  • Undergraduate degree in Business or Marketing, MBA a plus.
  • 8+ years of retail merchandising experience, with minimum 3 years time spent overseeing pricing promotion management /promotion optimization team in a corporate environment.
  • Deep understanding of promotional concepts (baseline and incremental sales and margin measurement, basket / traffic metrics, vendor funding), pricing strategie,s and optimization / analytical tools and methodologies.
  • Strong quantitative focus with experience in business trend analysis, product or promotion evaluation, market tests or general data analysis, along with strong financial acumen and proven business partnership.
  • Proven ability to connect promotion and pricing activity to greater enterprise planning, performance, and long-term strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence through storytelling and business connectivity.
  • A leader and self-starter with demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, and creative analytical and problem solving skills with the willingness to learn and drive change in a fast paced retail environment
  • Minimal travel for conferences and occasional store visits

The pay range for this position is $119,300.00 - $158,000.00 / Year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company's bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs. Full-time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life and disability benefits. Part-time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
