Job Description
Director of Research in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine . This individual will lead the research mission of a comprehensive academic Pediatric Emergency Medicine program.
The roles and responsibilities of the leader selected as our Director of Research include:
-Provide leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the PEM division's research programs and activities with a focus on the growth and sustainability of the division's research portfolio.
-Demonstrate effective skills and leadership related to developing operational effectiveness, establishing research priorities, directing strategic planning with regard to advancing the division's research program, identifying and addressing research funding/resource needs, and ensuring appropriate stewardship of the division's research budget and resources.
-Work directly with the PEM Division Director and PEM leadership team; department, medical school and system research enterprises for the strategic alignment of PEM research operations with the division's overarching goals.
-Ensure the PEM division meets all research-related compliance standards, including with internal policies and procedures, all applicable Institutional Review Boards, external agency regulations, government regulations, and contract regulations.
-Build collaborative relationships across other divisions/departments at other academic institutions to identify and grow opportunities for multi-center collaborative research endeavors at the local, regional/state and national levels.
-Provide regular updates-both verbal and written, as indicated-to the PEM Division Director, leadership team, and general faculty/fellow/staff team related to research activities within the division.
-Serve as a liaison and build collaborative relationships between division leadership and research leaders in the Department of Pediatrics to identify and support additional opportunities for multidisciplinary and interdepartmental research interactions.
-Participate in institutional research committees as directed by the PEM Division Director to support faculty and fellow research activities and assist in navigating all aspects of the research process.
-Lead and/or facilitate the division's engagement in multi-center research studies, including participation in national and global PEM research networks, such as PECARN, the AAP PEM-Collaborative Research Committee (PEM-CRC), and PERN. As indicated, serve as site principal investigator or support the PI for multi-center studies originating from collaborative research networks.
-Work directly with research groups (i.e., disaster preparedness, EMS-C, sepsis collaborative, medical education, simulation, etc.) to help support the advancement of their specific research programs and dissemination of scholarly work.
-Serve as an active leader and participant in the PEM Fellowship Curriculum, serving as a mentor and educator on topics related to PEM scholarly work-including leading research-related didactic sessions as assigned in the curriculum, supporting division journal club sessions, etc.
-Serve as a member of the PEM Fellowship's Scholarship Oversight Committees (SOCs) to help assure scholarly project quality, accountability, and completion for all PEM fellows.
-Assist PEM division members with the development and submission of presentation materials for local, regional, national, and international scientific presentations and the development, submission, and successful publication of high-quality peer-reviewed manuscripts.
-Support and expand the involvement of trainees (medical students, residents, fellows, nursing students, etc.) in PEM research.
-Seek out, identify, and disseminate research and scholarship opportunities/updates, as well as funding opportunities, to the division at large.
-Serve as a role model within the division/department, through continued and consistent accomplishments in a specific area of PEM research, as evidenced by building on an existing strong track record of peer-reviewed publications, grant funding, and meaningful contributions to PEM research with recognition
Required Qualifications
-MD, DO, MD/PhD
-demonstrate outstanding and original research in an area related to Pediatric Emergency Medicine, a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and sustained research funding, and a collaborative spirit.
