The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Nurse Clinician 4 position. This position is based out of Jackson Correctional Institution in Black River Falls, WI (Jackson County).

Position Summary

The Nurse Clinician 4 (NC4) functions independently in an expanded clinical role giving expert direct and indirect nursing care to patients who have a variety of basic and complex medical, psychiatric, dental, and nursing needs at Jackson Correctional Institution.

This position functions as the primary lead nurse for JCI and is responsible for maintaining adequate staffing and supplies to deliver health care.

This position also demonstrates grounding in Nursing Practice and the Nursing process and actively participates as the preceptor for contract agency staff and or limited term employment staff used to staff JCI.

In addition, the NC4 is a member of the multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. This position consults with the multi-disciplinary team within JCI, other DOC facilities and the community on planning and evaluating care for patients with dental, medical and mental health needs.

The NC4 identifies, develops and implements plans to meet the learning needs of patients, staff, students, and community agencies related to medical care and re-entry of offenders.

The NC4 participates in collaborative program planning to meet the health needs of patients at JCI and in the community when they are due to be discharged.

This position initiates and participates in research and quality improvement activities, as well as identifying the learning needs for this position and keeps current in nursing practice and the specialty of correctional nursing.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 11-01 with a starting pay of $48.00/hour - $54.46/hour . Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.

This position is anticipated to work primarily 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday - Friday and will be on the rotation with other staff for weekends and holiday coverage. This position may need to work extra hours to cover unanticipated absences.

This position is FLSA Exempt.

This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Qualifications

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess and maintain an active unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Developing, refining, and revising a patient plan of care utilizing continuous patient assessment and evaluation of current treatment plan results.
  • Coordinating chronic disease management including patient education, care planning, medication monitoring, and nursing and ACP follow-up care
  • Collaborating with other supervisors regarding general unit management.

In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Evaluating care provided by nursing staff and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Identifying and planning to meet learning needs of complex chronic disease patients and other correctional nursing staff related to delivering high quality nursing care.
  • Developing and participating in on-going quality improvement activities.
