Job Description
This position, reporting to the Assistant Director, is responsible for utilizing advanced and complex data analytic techniques to assist on both audit engagement and institutional risk analysis projects. The Senior Data Analytics Auditor works as a member of an audit team to both lead and contribute to operational, compliance, financial, and information technology engagements and reviews on campus. Additionally, the incumbent takes a leading role in the development of department-wide efforts to conduct institution-wide analytical analysis and review.
The position requires advanced problem-solving abilities along with strong organizational, planning, and self-management skills. OARC leadership will rely on the Senior Data Analytics Auditor to develop effective and creative data-driven ways to assess unit and institutional operations. Decisions made may impact the effectiveness and efficiency of administrative and business processes of the university; therefore, the incumbent must be able to apply both strong analytical skills and professional discretion in formulating recommendations for improvement. The Senior Data Analytics Auditor is responsible for effectively disseminating results, including the preparation of written reports, and collaborates with the broad university community.
The incumbent will have demonstrated analytics strategies that promote an analytical approach across the OARC portfolio of responsibilities, including audits, enterprise risk management, and compliance. The position requires the ability to import, clean, transform, validate, and model data with the purpose of understanding and making conclusions. The incumbent must have an understanding of both the common metrics and the process for the creation of routine or continuous auditing techniques that would be common in a research-focused higher education institution.
The incumbent must be able to demonstrate professional behavior and sound judgment while working independently and as part of a team. An auditor must be committed to conformance to high ethical standards and work in conformance with our professional standards. The incumbent is expected to fulfill their responsibilities with limited supervision while maintaining ongoing, open communication with OARC leadership and team members.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, Accounting, or related field plus minimum two years of experience in an audit role in higher education OR Master's degree in Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, Accounting, or related field plus minimum six months of experience in an audit role in higher education.
At least one of CPA, CIA, or CISA certification.
Knowledge of and a commitment to adherence to the Global Internal Audit Standards.
Knowledge and expertise in data analytics and/or deployment of analytic techniques that would be common in a research focused higher education entity.
Expertise with business intelligence and/or report development tools (e.g. Microstrategy, SAAS, Crystal Reports, etc.).
Robust understanding of database design, SQL, Python and/or Excel, and data retrieval in complex, relational database environments (e.g. Tableau, Power BI).
Familiarity with higher education, government agency, or other large, decentralized organizations.
Proficiency in current software, such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and analytic software packages.
Skilled in working effectively in teams and with diverse populations.
Availability to travel once or twice a year for engagements and training.
