The Role

The Production Manager is responsible for the production and delivery of the Company's products to military and commercial marine navigation customers. The incumbent works closely with Sales, Project Management, Supply Chain and Engineering to define the Company's product delivery requirements. These products will include custom-built and off-the-shelf components integrated into enclosures that meet the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and military standards demanded by our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and manages production schedules considering customer commitments, equipment, material supply and staff efficiency to ensure timely and cost-effective utilization of resources.
  • Develops and manages operating plans, procedures, equipment maintenance and training programs to ensure the efficiency and consistency of the production and production planning.
  • Plan, oversee and supervise all activities related to production and production planning.
  • In conjunction with project managers, maintains close contact with customers to promote a quality conscious, customer-oriented image for the company.
  • Implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives and analyze production and quality control to detect and correct problems.
  • Increases company profitability through identification and implementation of improvements to the production process and activities.
  • Support proposal and project activities by estimating production costs, establishing production budgets and ensuring management of production activities within allocated budgets.
  • Ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including project management, engineering and supply chain.
  • Facilitates and ensures individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood; performance measurement objectives are identified, measured, and monitored on an on-going basis to provide positive feedback on accomplishments and to ensure immediate action is taken to address shortfalls.
  • Provides safety, quality, and production leadership for production staff, setting standards and ensures awareness of and compliance with company policies and all applicable employment, environmental, health and safety legislation.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize the use of the companies ERP/MRP system as it relates to production and to facilitate efficiency between interdependent departments.
  • Develop a strategy and detailed plan to scale production by 100% over a five-year period.
  • Assess the utilization of production best practices while operating within a project based production environment, this should include but not be limited to concepts such as: Lean, Just in Time, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping and Technology & Automation.

You Bring
  • Education: University degree or Technology Institute diploma and/or relevant experience.
  • Experience: 6 to 8 years of experience in the technology industry with knowledge in the supply of system solutions to military customers.
  • Skills: Proven ability to analyze and solve hardware and software problems; conscientious team player who pays attention to detail and possesses excellent oral and written communication skills; organized; ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize; ability to learn quickly in a high paced, challenging environment.
  • Systems: Strong theoretical and practical understanding of MRP, particularly the concept of how to effectively manage, use and maintain accurate system demand.
  • Best Practices: Demonstrated experience implementing and using various best practices to drive production efficiency.
  • Planning: Strong strategic and tactical planning knowledge including establishing departmental strategic plans, migrating planning into a centralized system, and creating/maintaining systems standards and norms.
