The Senior Commodity Manager will have regional responsibility and accountability for supporting the development, deployment and tactical execution of Research and Development (R&D) procurement strategy in alignment with the global R&D strategy. Total spend will be approximately $80 to $100 million USD.

This role may be filled at Global Headquarters in Indianapolis, Global Business Center in Johnston, IA or Wilmington, DE. This role can accommodate a flexible work arrangement where you may work 1 or more days a week from home.

What You'll Do:
  • Support the development of the global procurement strategies and strategic/tactical execution for several R&D categories to achieve maximum value at the lowest total cost.
  • Responsible for driving strategy, cost models, project portfolios, RFx, supplier selection decisions, contract negotiation and implementation.
  • Participate as full partner on the business, functions, and regional leadership teams to fully understand the business strategy and to bring the external marketplace dynamics into the strategy and planning process.
  • Engage with businesses, functions, and regions to develop strategies and deliver tactical execution activities that deliver savings and growth that are aligned with business, function, and regional objectives.
  • Drive supplier management to the next level establishing key relationships and partnerships for the long term.
  • Develop and drive rigorous category and supplier performance metrics/programs.
  • Support and deliver process and policy simplification, governance, and compliance.
  • Build and lead a strong network of internal stakeholders, end-users and suppliers that are engaged, and business focused to deliver on overall business objectives.
  • Be a continuous learner on the use of standard procurement processes, category management, source-to-pay, risk mitigation and category/supplier performance management.
  • Develop competencies and targeted development plan that provides the education, exposure, and experience to deliver competitive landscape and industry trends.
  • Collaborating with the category team, fully evaluates the external market and develops strategies to mitigate risk and create competitive advantage versus our competition.
  • Work collaboratively with other procurement colleagues to share best practices and procurement process improvements.
  • Set high standards for the organization for ethics, professionalism, and compliance to all internal controls.
  • Manage all internal controls and contract-related aspects of outsourced services.
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders, subject matter experts, key suppliers and cross-functional organizations and engage them in strategic and tactical supplier management for value creation and innovation.
  • Works with operations and functions to identify, assess, qualify, and develop new suppliers needed for competition and value delivery.
  • Support other procurement activities as directed by management.


What Skills You Need:
  • BA/BS Degree with preferred focus business administration, supply chain or related fields;
  • Experience working in a scientific organization (R&D) is a plus
  • Experience or background in agricultural is a plus
  • Certifications in disciplines such as Procurement (SCMP/CPSM), Lean / Six Sigma.
  • Experience working in Sourcing, Procurement & Category Management experience in large, global multi-business organization OR related fields
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, SAP-Ariba, and Business Intelligence Systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, analytical and time management skills.
  • Self-starter, self-driven, highly motivated, strive for excellence, hands-on with attention to details on both the processes and results, able to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross functional environment.
  • Ability to resolve conflict and deliver required results.
  • Strong ability to connect people and process.
