Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking to hire an energetic individual for the position of Vice Chair for Education. The primary responsibility of the Vice Chair for Education is to oversee the complex educational mission of the Department, including the coordination of faculty, staff and trainees involved in that mission. This oversight includes educational initiatives across the spectrum of activities related to pipeline programs, undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME) at both residency and fellowship levels, continuing medical education (CME), and involvement of allied health students in the Department.
To accomplish these goals, the Vice Chair coordinates the varied teaching activities of the Department and ensures that the Department provides the best training possible for learners of all levels. The efforts are directed at, but not limited to:
1. Supervising and directing educational programming, as well as external funding initiatives pertaining to teaching.
2. Collaborating with the Director of Leadership and Professional Development to ensure effective faculty development related to teaching.
3. Working with our Family Medicine Residency Director and other partners to increase educational offerings, create new GME programs, and develop a network for the exchange of educational best practices.
4. Continuing to improve the teaching of medical students in coordination with the Department Clerkship Director and regional campus site directors.
5. Overseeing department grand rounds and other CME offerings.
6. Representing the Department at institutional education meetings.
7. Developing educational program evaluation processes and metrics for the purposes of assessment, improvement, and planning.
8. Ensuring that all educational programs meet or exceed all compliance standards and policies that govern them, including regulatory and accreditation requirement.
Consideration will be given to board-certified MD/DO or PhD for a full-time position. Position is a twelve-month, open rank, open tenure faculty position. Salary and rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Experience as a residency or fellowship program director preferred.
