Maintenance Manager

The Hopewell Power Station is a biomass facility situated in Hopewell, VA, with a capacity of 51 MW. It employs biomass-fired power generation technology to produce electricity, which is sold to Dominion. Additionally, the facility processes steam for sale. By utilizing biomass as a fuel source, the Hopewell Power Station plays a crucial role in reducing dependence on fossil fuels while contributing to the generation of renewable energy.

Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Manager will oversee the daily activities of maintenance personnel, ensuring all tasks are performed safely and efficiently in alignment with company policies and technical specifications. This role will manage the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance programs, collaborate with the NERC coordinator to meet testing requirements, and coordinate maintenance projects to optimize plant and contractor performance. Additionally, the Maintenance Manager will uphold safety standards, support employee morale, and assist with recruitment and contractor management to maintain smooth operations.

Primary Functions

Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Manager will include the following primary functions:

• Oversee maintenance personnel activities, ensuring maintenance and repair are conducted safely and efficiently, in line with company policies, procedures, and the station maintenance manual and technical specifications.
• Support and uphold the plant's safety procedures and goals. Collaborate with the Safety Manager to ensure all on-site contractors have completed safety evaluations before performing any activities. Promote safety compliance within the maintenance team.
• Manage the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance program, including equipment failure records, and provide trend analysis to the Plant Manager.
• Collaborate with the station NERC coordinator to ensure NERC-required testing is completed within the designated timeframes.
• Coordinate maintenance project activities by scheduling work, monitoring performance, and providing technical expertise to ensure that tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and on time.
• Determine project maintenance requirements by coordinating preventive maintenance, evaluating work requests, and managing manpower, parts, and equipment needs, including scheduled outages.
• Develop and manage contracts and work scopes for external contractors, ensuring optimal efficiency in the use of plant and contractor personnel.
• Maintain the plant's Maintenance Manual and ensure that vendor maintenance and repair manuals are properly filed and kept up to date.
• Coordinate with the Warehouse/Buyer, who is responsible for warehouse and inventory management, as well as network administration.
• Sustain the morale and motivation of maintenance personnel and address employee grievances as they arise.
• Assist with the recruitment, screening, and hiring of maintenance personnel.
• Complete special projects as assigned by the Plant Manager.

• Analyze results, write work orders, and provide training and education to eliminate hazards, address at-risk behavior, and meet company regulatory requirements.
• Conduct safety observation tours of high-risk activities (e.g., confined space) to verify that employees are following safe practices, company procedures, and OSHA regulations.
• Hold one-on-one sessions with direct reports to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations, and coach safe behaviors.
• Respond to all safety-related incidents, including injuries, incidents, and near misses; write a report explaining what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective actions based on established business unit or division practices. Follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are taken.

Working Relationships

The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate maintenance personnel. The Maintenance Manager collaborates with the Operations Manager, Compliance Manager, and Administrative Manager as needed in the safe and efficient daily operation of the plant.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The regular work schedule follows a Monday through Friday workweek during standard day shift hours. This position will occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or "On call" status may also be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $138,600 to $160,000 and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who has extensive power plant combined cycle maintenance technical and leadership experience with a work history that demonstrates a pattern of accomplishments and advancement.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university. Relevant work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Advanced knowledge and extensive experience in power plant operations is required.
• Proven experience in managing maintenance programs, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, preferably in a power plant or similar industrial setting.
• Strong technical knowledge of power plant equipment and systems, with the ability to diagnose equipment failures and implement best practices to improve plant performance.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to effectively oversee and coordinate maintenance staff to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
• Strong electrical and microprocessor-based control background, experience with rotating equipment, and the ability to use computer-based preventive and predictive maintenance tools is desired.
• Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Experience in developing and implementing maintenance programs, including the use of CMMS and reliability-centered maintenance approaches.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and effectively communicate with superiors, subordinates, and external stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and addressing maintenance challenges and implementing effective improvements.
• Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
