Status: Full-time/Exempt

Reports to: Chief Clinical Officer

Compensation: $83,000 - $91,500 plus medical, dental, and vision insurance. Other benefits include: full coverage of short and long-term disability and life insurance premiums; a matching 401K plan equivalent to 3% of the annual salary during the first 2 years of employment after passing the match eligibility date; as well as a flexible spending plan; an employee assistance program; and a free Fitbit.

About the Organization: Lines for Life is a regional non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities, while promoting mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance use, mental health challenges, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

Clinical Training Director Position Overview: The Director of Clinical Training provides visionary leadership and strategic oversight for all training initiatives at Lines for Life, including internal workforce development and community-based education efforts. This role is responsible for ensuring that all training activities support long-term sustainability and reflect evidence-based clinical practices. The Director plays a key role in aligning training with contractual obligations, accreditation standards, and the latest advancements in mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention.

Clinical Training Director Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of a multi-year training strategy that aligns with Lines for Life's organizational mission and strategic goals. Ensure training initiatives are forward-thinking, sustainable, and responsive to the evolving behavioral health landscape.
  • Team Oversight & Development: Supervise a multidisciplinary training team, including clinical training staff, workforce development leads, community trainers, and AmeriCorps members. Provide coaching, direction, and performance management to foster a high-performing and innovative team culture.
  • Curriculum Design & Delivery: Oversee the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum tailored to the diverse needs of staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders. Ensure content is clinically sound, culturally responsive, and consistent with contractual and accreditation requirements.
  • Program Evaluation & Innovation: Implement and manage data-informed evaluation systems to monitor training effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Fiscal Strategy & Resource Development: Collaborate with Finance to develop and manage the training department budget. Lead grant writing and reporting efforts, oversee contract-related financial compliance, and support Development in aligning funding with strategic goals. Identify and pursue innovative funding opportunities to support sustainable and scalable training initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with program leads across all departments to identify opportunities for collective impact and to ensure training needs across the organization are met.
  • Technology & Accessibility: Leverage technology to expand training reach and enhance the accessibility and interactivity of live and asynchronous training formats.
  • Professional Development & Industry Engagement: Stay informed of emerging trends in clinical training, crisis intervention, and behavioral health education through ongoing research, professional development, and participation in industry forums. Apply this knowledge to sustain Lines for Life's role as a leader in training excellence.
  • Organizational Leadership: Actively contribute to organizational planning and decision-making as a member of the Leadership Team. Support organization-wide initiatives and strategic growth efforts through a training and development lens.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Carry out additional responsibilities in support of the Chief Clinical Officer and organizational priorities as needed.

Clinical Training Director Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Graduate degree in psychology, social work or a related behavioral science field.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in the field of crisis intervention and training.
  • Excellent training skills and abilities, including the ability to effectively engage a wide variety of learning styles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think analytically to identify training needs and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Ability to think systematically to develop and execute complex, large-scale initiatives.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking and recruiting skills.
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess curiosity and a growth mindset.
  • Proficiency in a web-based computer environment.
  • Ability to stay calm when handling stressful situations.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.


Clinical Training Director Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), QPR (Question Persuade Refer), and/or Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor
  • Certification or license in a mental health or social services related field preferred including: AAS (American Association of Suicidology) Crisis Worker Certification; Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), CADC I (Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor), etc.
  • Experience working in a call center environment.
  • Experience providing trainings in both in-person and online environments.


Clinical Training Director Physical Requirements and Work Schedule:
  • Work is primarily conducted in an office environment, but may require standing for long periods of time during trainings. This position requires high energy, patience and controlling one's emotions, as well as the ability to think analytically. Work can be done from the Portland office or via telecommuting so long as the technology and security requirements can be met.
  • Shifts will primarily be M-F during the day, but may occasionally include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to assure that the quality of service remains consistent 24/7/365.
  • This position is expected to work during inclement weather conditions.


Hybrid In-Office & Telecommuting Location
  • This is a hybrid role that requires the ability to work at least part of the time from the Portland office and includes occasional travel to attend/facilitate some community trainings and events.
  • This position also has the option to telecommute part-time so long as requirements are met:
    • Daily tasks require a stable and consistent internet speed of 10 Mbps for both Upload and Download speeds, as well as Jitter below 20. Packet Loss should be as close to 0% as possible. You may test if your network requirements are met by doing a speed test here: https://speed.cloudflare.com/
    • Private highspeed internet is required for a HIPAA compliant workspace
    • Telecommuting requires a HIPAA compliant workspace at home and meeting technology requirements.
