POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Community Relations, the Community Outreach Associate provides support to the front-line customer service staff working in the Port Interpretive Centre/Visitor Information Centre.

This position also supports and organizes PRPA's public engagement activities and programming by engaging with, and maintaining relationships with, regional community groups and organizations representing key audiences such as local Indigenous communities, youth and schools, civic organizations, local governments, and corridor communities.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Supports the Port Interpretive Centre/Visitor Information Centre staff in a variety of ways; supplying up-to-date Port and visitor-related information, organizing and completing project work, developing Port Interpretive Centre engagement tactics, and providing instruction and support in the day-to-day operations.
  • Works within the Community Relations team to plan and execute the Port Interpretive Centre exhibit space, including content updates, event programming, and educational activities.
  • Tracks and records all statistical data required by external and internal stakeholders. Generates monthly, seasonal and annual reports for Tourism Prince Rupert and the Manager of Community Relations.
  • Supports community relations programming and event coordination at civic events, and manages activities in the Port Interpretive Centre. This includes representing the Prince Rupert Port Authority at civic and community events and engagements.
  • Engages with public audiences in a variety of ways, including hosting at the Port Interpretive Centre both internally and externally, coordinating visits and tours, answering inquiries related to both port-related activities and general visitor information.
  • Conducts research on port-related subject matters relevant to Public Affairs.
    Provides other administrative support including, but not limited to, answering phone calls and emails, as well as maintaining records and generating internal status reports.
  • Provides on-going support to the Community Relations Associate and Public Affairs team on all community relations activities, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties, as required.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works predominantly in the Port Interpretive Centre/Visitor Information Centre.
  • Regular, full-time position (37.5 hours per week). Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM with 1 hour lunch break (unpaid).
  • Regular work hours may be varied to meet operational needs, including evenings and weekends.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Formal Education

  • Post-secondary education.


Related Experience

  • 3 to 5 years' experience in a customer service work environment.
  • Experience in tourism-related work environments is an asset.

  • Able to obtain security clearance under Transport Canada's Security Clearance Program.
  • Ability to communicate in French is an asset.


The starting base salary range for this role is $76,166.00 - $95,208.00
