Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry invites applications for four full time tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant, or Associate Professor level. Applicants should have a PhD or DDS/DMD/PhD (or equivalent degrees) and a record of productive postdoctoral training and accomplishment in one of the following areas (musculoskeletal biology, craniofacial genetics, oral microbiology & immunology). Ideal candidates will be collaborative scientists that bring new perspectives to the Institute of Oral Health Research. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program, and to participate in our graduate and dental student training programs through mentorship and teaching. The primary criteria for selection will be excellence and creativity in research and scholarship.
UAB, a Carnegie R1 research university, had record high research grants and awards totaling $715 million in FY22 and ranked 28th in NIH funding in the United States. The School of Dentistry has consistently ranked among the top tier in NIH/NIDCR funding. The Institute of Oral Health Research offers an outstanding work environment and enjoys a strong tradition of collaborative research with several schools and colleges at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The IOHR has strong research programs in skeletal development, epigenetics, oral cancer, oral microbiology and immunology, periodontal regeneration therapeutics and clinical periodontics, as well as outstanding university-wide facilities and resources available to support our faculty members and reaches across departmental boundaries. In addition, opportunities are available for participation in the UWIRC Center (https://www.uab.edu/research/home/uwirc/directory). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to actively participate in well-established PhD and DMD/PhD programs and the Graduate School Program in Biomedical Sciences, which includes 10 doctoral programs.
