Job Purpose
The Distribution Planning Engineer in Distribution Planning & Asset Management will develop recommendations for required modifications and additions to the sub-transmission and distirbution facilities to enhance the resiliency of the system to adverse weather events and to modernize the grid in a fashion to meet forecasted capacity requirements and expanding customer service quality expectations in an economic manner that optimizes the use of existing systems and minimizes environmental concerns.

Job Purpose

Key Accountabilities
- System Planning & Asset Management: Provide strategic direction for immediate and long-term planning of sub-transmission and distribution systems, ensuring resilience and modernization to meet capacity and service quality demands.
- Customer Support: Conduct studies and ensure compliance for customer load and distributed generation interconnections, providing technical guidance to support teams.
- Reliability Performance: Track and enhance regional distribution and sub-transmission reliability, promoting actions for improvement.
- Technical Expertise: Provide engineering support for high voltage customer load interconnections and ensure successful integration of distributed generation into the electric power system, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration: Work with various National Grid departments, including Electric Operations, Regional Control Centers and Distribution Design, to support integration of distributed generation, deployment of grid modernization, customer centric solutions and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Leadership & Training: Lead and mentor team members, fostering an inclusive work environment and improving modeling, simulation, and reporting processes.
- Industry Engagement: Represent National Grid in industry and regulatory groups, staying informed on trends and legislative developments.
- Problem Solving: Take responsibility for addressing issues promptly and effectively, while continuously seeking improvements in processes and performance.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Able to motivate, counsel, coach, and develop direct reports and others.
- Experience establishing clearly defined goals and standards of employee performance.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; a Master's degree or advanced certificate in an engineering discipline is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in an electric planning / design role.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in power flow software, such as Siemens PSS/E and CYME.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver's license.
