Amazon is now searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Regional Manager, Operations Engineer to be a part of our global initiative of developing and delivering the next generation of world-class fulfillment systems. Successful candidates are natural self-starters who have prior engineering experience in the integrated automation project life cycle, including development, design, implementation, enhancement, and support.

As a Regional Manager, Operations Engineer for Amazon Fulfillment, you will be able to work with some of the most talented engineers in the design, development, and delivery of physical distribution systems around the globe. You will lead a team of engineers to implement initiatives and complex cross-functional projects or programs that focus on the building of new, the alteration of existing, and the closing of end-of-life material handling and technology systems. As a leader, you are able to take the lead on the implementation and delivery of large system designs and advanced technology in ambiguous and complex problem spaces as well as executing defined engineering team structure and strategy. You partner with senior leaders, technical managers, and senior engineers to deliver the long-term strategy of program growth and project execution. You integrate systems for safety, security, stability, and efficiency. You participate in the full system development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and solution quality needs.

This role requires 75% regional travel on a yearly basis. When not traveling, you must have availability to work from a corporate office. Key job responsibilities
\tLead and manage the lifecycle of complex cross-functional projects with considerable impact. Projects may span organizations or geographies in support of a business objective.
\tDefine projects (scope, delivery, budget), set objectives, analyze data, drive improvements to metrics, and influence resource allocation.
\tDefine systems in your project space, their limitations, performance factors, boundary conditions, and reasons behind design intent and decisions.
\tResponsible to deep dive technical solutions that encompass advanced technology applications, conveyor hardware selection, material handling integration, and vendor commissioning content and expectations.
\tLead and manage a team of talented engineers handling multiple projects at a time
\tSimultaneously manage multiple high-visibility projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors
\tLead and coordinate design and execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors including equipment specifications, material flow, process design, and site layout.
\tLead and actively participate in design reviews and communicate future impacts of proposed solutions on an individual system or its components, on the overall systems architecture, on facility processes, and on team contributions and progress.
\tDevelop and manage budget and contract documents including RFPs, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicing.
\tBuild strong working relationships with NA Operations leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites, as well as their Launch, Construction, Facilities, Finance, Safety, Process Engineers, and other business stakeholders.
\tIdentify and lead process improvement initiatives in support of operations teams within a geographic node.
\tInnovate with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems, including robotics and mechatronics, across many new fulfillment and logistics centers that are being built each year
\tDrive engineering best practices (e.g., operational excellence, safety, security, quality, performance, etc.) and set standards for project execution and installation management
\tProvide technical leadership for large-scale industrial engineering projects using MS Excel, AutoCAD, Smartsheet, and Amazon-internal project management solutions
\tDevelop cross-functional knowledge of Operations and Engineering team systems, processes, procedures, and tools.
\tWork with complex MHE, packaging lines, and process design based on Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques
\tCollaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time.

Global Engineering Services (GES) NA Operations Engineering, or Ops Eng, works across North America to deliver Material Handling System launches, retrofits, and innovations. A day in the life can take place on a jobsite, in an active facility, or in one of Amazon's corporate offices. GES NA Ops Eng is highly team-oriented, working daily be smarter together, be faster together, and to grow together.

About the team

The OE Execution Team is responsible for delivery of Automation Infrastructure projects related to material handling, storage, processing, and delivery of products to retrofits and newbuilds throughout First and Middle Miles across all regions within North America.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, management, or technology

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level

- 8+ years' experience as a project engineer, process engineer, project manager, manufacturing engineer, or related occupation.

- 5+ years of experience managing and leading a team of 5+ engineers

- 3+ years' experience directly managing and responsible for large material handling or automation projects.

- Design and/or implementation experience with integrated automation solutions, such as complex material handling systems, high-speed packaging lines, or manufacturing lines.

- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement principles & techniques

- Experience in complex work environments, including (but not limited to robotics, automation, diagnostic and test equipment)

- Master's degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related STEM field.

- Operations Management/Distribution Center experience.

- Exposure to Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing efforts, transportation/logistics and/or fulfillment/distribution centers.

- Direct management or responsibility for material handling, automation, or technical projects.

- Proven technical leadership for industrial engineering projects or programs.

- Demonstrated design and/or implementation experience with integrated automation solutions, such as material handling systems, high-speed packaging lines, or manufacturing lines.

- Proven technical leadership for large-scale industrial engineering projects or programs

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
