The SPLC seeks a Deputy Director, Data Analytics and OSINT who is passionate about racial and social justice!

The Deputy Director, Data Analytics &OSINT leads technical research at the intersection of data analytics (OSINT), cybersecurity, and hard-right extremism. This role oversees the Intelligence Project Data Lab, using advanced data science and digital research to track and expose how extremist groups exploit technology for propaganda, fundraising, recruitment, and coordination.

The Deputy Director develops data storage and analysis methods to study online networks of hate, racism, and extremism, supporting the department's investigative work. Operating within a cross-functional matrix, this role manages product and project teams, including analysts and technical contractors, and serves as the technical backbone for all IP teams. The position also coordinates with litigation, IT, Security, Legal, and the CTO.

What You'll Do

Drive data-informed decision-making by guiding teams in data analysis, operationalizing diverse data sources, and communicating insights on online extremism through innovative visualizations and creative outputs.

Establish program management systems, ensure accountability for outcomes, and lead hiring, training, performance management, and technical skill development through mentoring and coaching.

Act as a key liaison for IT, Security, and Policy, collaborating across teams to address urgent issues and develop technical infrastructure, policy, and data-driven solutions.

Collaborate cross-departmentally to plan and conduct research for publication; independently and with staff, write short articles and periodic long-form reports. Use internal data, OSINT, and third-party sources to produce actionable intelligence on extremist threats.

Partner with IP leadership to set strategic tech priorities, guide project focus and structure, and stay current on cybersecurity threats to keep the team informed.

Lead complex short- and long-term projects, designing research that delivers insights on hard-right extremism, especially online. Collaborate with leadership to set tech priorities, structure projects, and stay informed on cybersecurity threats.

Present at conferences, Congressional briefings, conducts workshops, and publishes research as needed.

Support budgeting, audits, and cost justifications to ensure efficient, accurate evaluation of technical solutions; manages contracts to drive innovation and implementation.

Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
Minimum Qualifications

We are committed to equitable hiring practices; therefore, you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in developing and applying data storage and measurement techniques for data analysis projects and proven ability in programming languages (e.g., Python), relational databases (e.g., SQL), statistical analysis, and data visualization technologies;
  • Five (5) years of management experience; and
  • Have obtained at least a Master's degree in computer science or a closely related field.
Compensation & Benefits

This is an exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $148,500 annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Where & How You'll Work

This role has the following work designation options:
  • Local Remote: Will work remotely, but is expected to attend work-related activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates.
  • Telework: Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.
  • Distant Remote: Will work remotely and is not expected to work in the states in which the SPLC has an office or in an SPLC office. They may be required to attend occasional meetings or activities in the states in which the SPLC has an office or elsewhere.
  • This position will report to the Director, Intelligence Project.
Other Special Considerations

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
