POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates the delivery of clinical services to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment and oversees operations of Radiation Oncology Department ensuring quality and cost effective service. Supervises Radiation Therapy Technologist staff. Assists manager in the implementation of department and institutional strategic goals. As needed and as directed by the Radiation Oncologist administers ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with prescription. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives. Responsible for all billing and charges.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Minimum:
Graduate of an approved school of Radiation Therapy Technology program.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Minimum:
Current license from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and current certification in Radiation Therapy from the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
At least five years experience as a technologist in a hospital radiation therapy department.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Excellent communication, organization and critical-decision making skills.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with patients, visitors, physicians and all levels of staff within the organization and community.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides daily support and supervision to staff, in the delivery of patient care and carrying out strategic vision. Serves as a resource communicating issues to staff, manager and physicians, facilitating smooth operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety and hospital standards.
Monitors staff resource utilization, including preparing and reviewing daily schedules, addressing short-term fluctuations and assigning daily work.
Oversees staff selection, orientation, education and performance evaluation process ensuring competence and compliance with department and hospital rules and regulations and human resource policies. Maintains an environment that promotes positive change strategies and individual growth.
Assists in the preparation of department operating and capital budgets.
Performs technologist procedures as required in accordance with code of ethics and practice standards.
Assists manager in developing and maintaining supply resource utilization and expense, within established budget parameters.
Evaluates performance and quality outcomes and customer satisfaction. Collects data and maintains all required records ensuring compliance with governmental, accreditation and safety regulations.
Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.
Completes weekly, hospital charge checks of patients currently under treatment. Submits weekly management physician charges according to physician EMR/dictation to the professional billing dept. Keys into the Epic system patient treatment charges daily and organizes professional charges submitted to the plaza per physician.
