Responsibilities
- Working closely with the President and the Board of Trustees to identify, cultivate and recruit new Trustees from the worlds of business, finance, media, government and philanthropy.
- Acting as a liaison with the Trustees and the Board's Development Committee in identifying, cultivating and recruiting individual donors and developing relationships with corporate and philanthropic contacts.
- Working with the Board to create and facilitate a planned giving program.
- Preparing an annual fund-raising plan, identifying fund raising needs, developing and recommending initiatives to address these needs and setting fund raising goals for the College.
- Overseeing a capital campaign and working with Trustees, appropriate staff and consultants on implementation of same.
- Working with the College faculty and administrative staff to identify and develop programs and/or initiatives which offer possibilities for successful fund raising.
- Developing new strategies, researching appropriate funders, and expanding approaches to individuals, foundations, corporations (both in New York City and across the nation) to position the College and generate support for specific fund-raising needs.
- Initiating and preparing proposals for review by the President and any other appropriate faculty or staff.
- Coordinating the process of awarding the College's named scholarships, and working to expand the corpus of these scholarships and developing other named scholarship opportunities.
- Keeping a rolling calendar of all fund-raising activities (foundation and corporate proposal and reporting deadlines, individual solicitations, events), and ensuring that all deadlines are met.
- Preparing and maintaining status reports of all fund-raising activities and reporting quarterly to the Board.
- Planning and implementing specific fund-raising events, as determined by the President and the Board, and working closely with the President, key Board members, other College staff and individuals to ensure their success.
- Participating in the College's Strategic Planning Committee and the President's Cabinet, and any other task forces or committees as requested.
- Supervising the Coordinator of Alumni Affairs and all alumni activities and events.
- Supervising a Development Associate and ensuring that all record-keeping, databases, research and files are maintained and updated on a regular basis.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree plus ten years of fund-raising experience required;
- Master's degree plus 5 years of executive-level experience considered.
- Experience and demonstrated success with capital campaigns, major gifts and special events desired.
- Three to five years of experience in within higher education or a comparable nonprofit environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, supervisory experience and "people" skills required.
- Knowledge of and experience with foundations and corporations in the New York metropolitan area preferred.
