POSITION SCOPE AND PURPOSE: Work closely with various departments to develop and implement cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specification and quality standards. Be a key member of a team to manage projects from concept through production launch of new programs that meet and exceed internal and external customers' requirements while matching SMC's business needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Quality: Exceed customer expectations as related to part, product, and/or assembly.
  • Safety: Analyze manufacturing processes and equipment to ensure they are operating within specification, meet ergonomic standards, and are safe for personal within the plant.
  • Service: Meet the needs of external and internal customers related to tasks and the manufacturing team's needs for success.
  • Leadership: Provide support and technical solutions to team members ensuring project deliverables are complete, accurate, and meet established timelines.
  • Cost: Research, plan, and develop robust manufacturing processes that are on-time and within budget. Analyze equipment layout, workflow, and assembly methods to achieve maximum utilization of resources.
  • Continuous Improvement: Manage tasks with knowledge gained from previous projects and other SME's to continually drive greater results.
  • Culture: Support a team culture where all participating employees feel engaged, involved, supported, and challenged to exceed expectations.


OTHER POSITION DUTIES:
  • Work with all departments and team members to successfully complete project tasks.
  • Drive the completion of product and manufacturing process solutions.
  • Active participant in DFM, DFA, and pFMEA activities.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, work cell layouts, BOMs, and work instructions.
  • Responsible for IQ and OQ documentation of secondary equipment and processes.
  • Procure and install specialty automation equipment.
  • Train technicians and operators on how to operate equipment and run processes.
  • Implement operational improvements through design, process, and applicable technologies.
  • Perform product and process qualification activities with Quality Engineers to fulfill the approved protocol.
  • Research, develop, and implement new technologies that align to business needs.
  • Collect, analyze, and present data to drive decisions.
  • ~10% Travel may be required to meet customer needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in an applicable Engineering discipline with 8+ years of experience, preferably in plastics or medical industries.
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, evaluating and solving problems.
  • Ability to design robust solutions to support project needs. (examples: robot end effectors, assembly fixtures, gages, custom tools...)
  • Ability to work autonomously or as a team depending on the requirements driven by a project and daily tasks.
  • Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including workflow, layout, assembly, and production equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency; Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Solid Works.
  • Ability to fluently read, write, speak and understand English.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; reviewing detailed information; viewing a computer terminal; and expansive reading.
  • The ability to manage several projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, and Hearing.
