Job Summary

Fraser Health is looking for Family Physicians (FPs) who would like to have an inpatient component to their practice. The Orthopedic service at the Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) has a mixture of trauma and elective patients who require a FP to manage their new and ongoing medical issues while they are inpatients.

Service Overview:

The Clinical Associate (CA) will collaborate with the Orthopaedic Surgeons and interdisciplinary professional staff to provide comprehensive medical care for patients on the Orthopaedic Service at RCH from admission to discharge/transfer out.

Responsibilities: The CA will:
  • Provide diagnostics, assessments, treatments, and follow-up care.
  • Collaborate in multi-disciplinary care planning including attending scheduled ward rounds and patient care meetings.
  • Review and manage patient medications, provide education, and develop treatment plans.
  • Participate in discharge planning, including coordinating post-hospital care.
  • Consult and communicate with Internal Medicine, and other medical subspecialties.
  • Liaise with community resources to support patient discharges and ongoing care.
  • Document using the FHA EMR, Meditech Expanse.

Schedule and Hours:
  • Service days: 7 days per week, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • On-call and after-hours responsibilities: The CA will have no on-call or after-hours responsibilities. (After-hours medical coverage will be provided by the on-call orthopaedic surgeon and residents).

Scope of Service:
  • The CA will manage the medical care of orthopaedic patients, from admission to discharge, including managing chronic conditions, acute medical issues, and any complications that arise during the hospital stay. The orthopaedic surgeons will remain the Most Responsible Physicians (MRPs) for surgical aspects of patient care. This delineation ensures that each provider's services are distinct and non-overlapping.
